Racon wants to stay

edited April 2009 in General Charlton
Apologies if people have read this here or elsewhere already, but I hadn't and just found this article by Racon on Kent Online. See last par in particular, which is encouraging - admits he thought about going back to France but now wants to stay...N

Inside view with Charlton midfielder Therry Racon

''Despite my recent goals, it doesn’t really feel like an appropriate time to be dancing at the moment.

Fans keep asking me about the dances I do when I score for Charlton.

Everyone knows the first one I did, during the Plymouth match in February. It’s not just in England that children learn the head, shoulders, knees and toes dance!

Before the match against Southampton I asked Chris Dickson, who is our resident entertainer, to show me another one in case I scored again.

I’ve no idea where that dance comes from, or what it’s called, but I scored probably the best goal of my career so it seemed right to celebrate.

Considering the number of games I have played this season, I am very pleased to have scored three goals, but the position of the club is the most important thing.

Unfortunately, we haven’t got much to celebrate after the two draws in three days against Birmingham and Coventry last weekend.

We played well in both games, but everything seems to be against us. We hit the woodwork in both games and we had a goal disallowed in both games, and it does make you think.

Everyone at the club knows the situation we are in, and we are now a real long shot to avoid relegation.

However, we will keep going and hoping until it’s mathematically impossible for us. In football, you never know what will happen.

It’s been a difficult season for me. I was ready to play a big role for the team, and had worked hard to be ready for the start of the season and was in the team for the first game.

Then I got injured, and after again working hard to get back, I got another injury after my first game, so I’ve been forced to watch from the sidelines for a lot of matches, and it was very frustrating.

When you’re injured, and when you see the team losing, it’s very hard.

When I’ve been playing, I’ve tried to wear the shirt for the fans and for the people at the club, and that won’t change just because we are at the bottom of the league.

This season has been very different to last season, when I came over from France.

I like it in England now, but last season was very hard because I was out of the team and then went out on loan, so I couldn’t show fans what I could do.

I was thinking about going back to France, but that’s not the case now, and I want to stay and spend my career in England. I like the club, everyone at the club and like the area.''

  • I really, REALLY hope he stays. He is a class player at this level, he will be player of the year in League 1 if he stays fit.
  • That's the problem. A really class player, but injury prone. Let's hope he stays and stays fit.
  • absolutely must keep hold of him. He will be an absolute class above all of the others in League1 next season if we do and will provide plenty of goals. If we have any ambitions to go straight back up he is a must keep.
  • LOL @ Chris Dickson "resident entertatiner"
  • He's quality, hope he stays along with Bailey and Shelvey obviously. We need those three in midfield as it'll be impossible to replace that sort quality while we're in League One.

I'm not sure about calling him injury prone, he got one injury then was unlucky to get another. He's had two longish term injuries, not constant problems.

Christ knows what he'll do if he scores.
  • Comes across as a really decent and likable guy with feet firmly on the ground, I so hope he stays.

I believe Chris Dickson does some sort of mask with his hand and Tresor Kandol some crazy acrobatic summersault/ cartwheel. We just need goals and I hope they come in League One.
  • I hope he stays, I have been impressed with his level of performance since coming back from two big injuries. He will be an important player for us next year.

Christ knows what he'll do if he scores.

His last goal, against Sheff Utd in the cup ....... he scored, ran over to the net, picked up the ball and sprinted back to the halfwayline.
  • If Chris Dickson scores I will do cartwheels.

    Could be messy!!!

TBH I have already assumed Bailey will go. But am really hoping Jonjo and Racon will stay.

Apparently Kins speaks very highly of his attitude and thats good enough for me.

Better give the whole of the East Stand a two minute warning C.

Always liked him as a player since he came on at Selhurst and glad he's showing what he is worth. Would love to see him with Semedo sitting behind and Jon Jo pushed on.

Not wanting to be a doom monger or pedant but he says

"I was thinking about going back to France, but that’s not the case now, and I want to stay and spend my career in England."

Lots of other clubs in England.

!I like the club, everyone at the club and like the area.''

Lots of other clubs in the area too but lets hope he stays.

Yeah i saw some kids doing this in the street the other day, must be the new dance.

So much more PC than clown.
  • If theres one player we keep hold of all summer I hope it's Racon.

I really think he can make the difference between a point and 3 points in the way Reid used to be able to do. He scores and creates chances and is good on the ball.

More important he stays than Shelvey or Bailey imo.

He needs a song though? Any ideas?
  • Agree with the thoughts on Racon. I think it's more important that he stays than Bailey. I take it as a given that Bailey will go and if we can get some decent money for him and keep Racon and Shelvey i'd be happy.
A midfield with Semedo holding and Sam, Racon and Shelvey getting forward to support a front TWO would work pretty well IMO.
  • Reminds me Semedo and Racon looked like a decent partnership at QPR away
