Harsh WelshAddick. I've never been a fan either but they were made an example of by the fuddy-duddies at the football League with their excessive points deduction and their drop from the league was almost assured. Their win at Wembley in that Cup had a ring of justification to it in my eyes.
plastic pitch, 'home fans only' a lot of hassle to get into the ground in those days, ground miles away from the station so no too bothered but for a team with small home support very decent away support;-)
40,000 fans and they were compaining that they could have sold more but they couldn't get tickets off of Scunthorpe due to segregation issues.
Attempted murder of a club by the football league imo if your West Ham , Derby or possibly Southampton this season, you get away with it. If you go to the league and point out that the previous owners of the club may have been breaking the rules your rewarded with a 30 point fine
I feel sorry for the conference sides. Rather than having to play an eminently beatable Grimsby or Macclesfield you get to play a determined mid talbe League 2 side with regular 6,000 gates. They'll be a short price to go straight back up I imagine.
I'll see you for that beer Oggy. Don't know about you, but I've suddenly started supporting Yeovil & Exeter, 2 home away games next season with a bit of luck :-)
As I said, I 've done Exeter before, I'mnot .... but Yeovil will be a new ground.
I'll see you at both - and maybe we can still play the Greenies in the cup ... ?
East Devon Welsh, little village near Hontion and Ottery St Mary, (ironically about a mile from Luton!) Do Rovers still play at the memorial ground (I dont want to turn up at Ikea by mistake!)
It was very unfair how the club got punished for the actions of the old board, but with the board they have in place now they'll be back better and stronger than before, which is ashame as I hate them! ;-)
Yes they won the League Cup back in 1988, relegated on the last day of the 1991/92 season and hence missed out on all the TV money of the newly formed Premier League and have slipped and slipped. Like them or not it's a shame to see a team fall from grace so spectactularly. What I don't get is the severe points deductions seem only to be for teams in the bottom two divisions. How many PL teams in recent years (Spurs/West Ham) have avoided points deductions. Just seems to be one rule for the rich and powerful and one for everyone else.
I daresay Luton deserved punishment but 30!!!!!!!POINTS!!!!!!!
Bournemouth and Rotherham got 17 point penalties fortheir misdemeanours.
West Ham got a £5 million fine and MIGHT give Sheffield United another £15 million at some indeterminate time in the future which is relative peanuts given the Premiership largesse.
I'm no Luton fan but this is blatantly unfair and I'd even say the same if it was Palace or Millwall!

A nice little payday, though - they'll be taking some decent numbers away. I bet Forest Green Rovers are wondering how they'll all fit in... and FGR's fans will be turning their noses up at Kenilworth Road ;-)
I wasn't a big fan of Luton for many of the same reasons as others but the way they have been treated is totally shameful. Basically caning them for the actions of a previous board and because Newell spoke out about some of the more dodgy dealings that goes on and they can't have that in these days of nice, sanitised, Sky'ed up football can we. Truly shocking yet because they are a relatively small club that doesn't really feature in the Prem' obsessed media the FA got away with it.
Getting a bit concerned about my local club, Bournemouth, getting dragged back into it too. Shame if it happens as a town this size deserves a league club and their following reminds me of ours in many ways.

West Ham fall under the jurisdiction of the FA, while Luton, Bournemouth etc are League clubs. Same game, different set of rules.
Unfortunately while I have sympathy for the new owners you can't wipe out a punishment simply because the club has changed ownership.

But that's exactly what happened at West Ham, so you can mitigate it according to circumstances.
Different rules ...... maybe as far as the Prem and FL are concerned.
But both West Ham and Luton, as well as the Prem and FL, fall under the ultimate jurisdiction of the FA.
In Luton's case, they were made an example of, as a deterrant to other clubs perhaps.
Ten points of the thirty was from the FA sticking it's oar in over the Luton Town's holding club paying monies directly to agents. Essentially what Luton did was not illegal and was less questionable than the legal but dodgy stuff going on. The only universal truth is that like most rulings they're fully affected by how much money and S**t you throw at them. And the FA is more patheticly gutless against the big boys than most organisations. The FA oversee transfers and license agents, so we're all affected by their useless presence.
I wonder if the FA would have taken on Berlusconi if Kaka went to City with Jorobchian 'mediating'?
Luton got a ten point deduction for going into administration and then twenty point for comin out as they didn't meet the CVA; which the Football League had forced them to pay an extra £500,000 to creditors. All in all the huge ammounts of legal but dodgy payments to agents in the prem ammounts to no penalties. Luton admit to it and the FA put the boot in. They could have suspended the ten points in light of the football league's twenty. Frankly the gutless idiocy of the FA chalking up a meaningless result is appalling especially when their Premier League is rife with dodgy activity. Bunch of damn gutless cowards.

Yet Southampton's holding club go into administration ...... and yet the FA deem them above penalty or discipline.
Double standards.
Something definitely rotten in the state of Denmark.

..........
West Ham should have been clobbered, if not automatic relegation then a sizeable points deduction. We all know that the FA lacked the balls to make the right decision, however that doesn't excuse Luton breaking the rules and benefitting from the same degree of leniency.
Indeed this double point deduction for going and coming out of admin is ridiculous. Putting that with holding companies allowing you to avoid punishment it's an absolute farce. I don't wish Soton to have points deducted but the football league really needs to sort it out rather than going after Leeds and Luton for their CVA's.

If we play them, Welshy ....... I'll be there!
We'll have to meet up for a beer with Imnot Athletic, who lives in those parts.
Not a new ground though - seen Charlton 3 times there already, lol
Just imagine ...... 40, 000 fans cheering on what is now a non-League club.
That's 2 former top-flight clubs and both Wembley League Cup winners of just 20 years ago, now in the Conference.
Strange football world.

yeah but Luton didn't or don't have Sir Trevor Brooking in a prominent FA role - ooooh what did i do there.
there for the grace of god go i (lets hope we have no skeletons)
