Bromley v AFC Wimbledon

Anyone else go there today, being from Bromley I have to say the end to that game was absolutely hilarious stuff & I loved it. Why can't Charlton games give that much excitement !! If only they had replays of that division on the TV, I would love to have seen the whole incident again.

For those that were not there, picture Arsenal V Sheff Utd a few years ago but with an absolutely stunning goal from the Bromley boy.

While I would like to see Wimbledon go back up, Bromley definately deserved something from the game and the "goal" was a peach so fair play to the boy for celebrating, in fact the number 10 for Bromley was head and shoulders above every other player on the pitch and could probably do a great job in League 1.

  • Didn't realise it was on otherwise would have gone down there - sounds like Palace's non-league side acted like a bunch of charmers.

    match report

Furious Terry Brown launched a scathing attack on Bromley after a heated final five minutes at Hayes Lane.

The AFC Wimbledon manager tore into the Dons’ rivals after Ryan Hall’s controversial late leveller.

Leading 2-1, Jon Main kicked the ball out deep into stoppage time to allow injured team-mate Jay Conroy treatment in the penalty area.

But the Kent club refused to kick it back – with Hall instead lobbing James Pullen from the half-way line.

Brown says Bromley stand-in boss Murray Jones refused to do the right thing and allow Wimbledon a ‘walk-in’ goal because Tom Davis had previous thrown an empty water bottle in the direction of the dug-out.

Ivor Heller, Wimbledon’s commercial director, said after that Mark Goldberg – unable to take his place on the bench because of a serious leg injury – had told him he would have instructed his players to stand aside.

But Brown said: “I’m not having that. I am appalled and disgusted at the Bromley officials that they have not allowed us to walk the ball into the net.

“I asked the referee to ask their manager to do what’s right and he refused on the grounds that Tom has thrown an empty water bottle near him. I know Goldberg isn’t here but that means nothing.

“If I’m over on the other side of the ground with my leg in plaster then my club would have made the right decision. My club has morals and so do I.

“Erik (Samuelson) would have sacked me if I would have allowed that to stand.

“Hall’s a typical flash boy, a typical idiot. That was stupid but their decision is a disgrace. Had they been in a relegation battle then perhaps you might understand their cheating but they’re not – they are going nowhere. "
  • Obviously thats a pretty one sided story.

The fact is the Bromley team had probably had enough of the outrageous diving by AFC players, including the obligatory fake injury going into added time when we were attacking which led to the ball being put out.

The article also failed to mention again that Wimbledon fans decided to take parts of the ground apart, ripping up advertising hoardings, after the game.
  • Have to say that article is painfully biased. As said above the Wimbledon players really did throw themselves on the floor rather a lot which was very embarrassing for a non-league club espcecially.

As for accusing Hall of being flash, I don't actually think he meant the goal, but good luck to him as it ended up being a beauty. Maybe he shouldn't have celebrated but how often will he score into the top corner from the half way line! As I said in my earlier post he was head and shoulders better than any of the other players on the pitch and I would be amazed if he does not make a step up to league football at some stage.
  • I went to that game. As a neutral I wasn't impressed with Bromley's lack of sportsmanship in refusing to allow Wimbledon to score a goal in reply. Play was allowed to continue quite close to the man who was down while Bromley were in an attacking phase and then when the ball was cleared to near the halfway line a Wimbledon player deliberately put it out. I was more or less right behind the Bromley player who received the ball from the throw and he just belted it forwards. It didn't look to me as if he had any intention of scoring (as least I hope he didn't) but the flight of the ball completely deceived the keeper and it looped into the top corner. It was a total freak "goal" and it doesn't say much for Bromley that they took advantage of it. I believe their normal manager wasn't in the dug-out and he was replaced by a stand-in, so I hope the report above (that the normal manager would have acted differently) is a better reflection of the club.
  • On a Wimbledon Note:

Jon Main born in Greenwich lives in Kent i believe:

Jon became AFC Wimbledon's record signing in November 2007 after joining the Dons for a substantial but undisclosed fee just days after playing and scoring against us for previous club Tonbridge Angels, where this prolific striker bagged 52 goals in just 57 appearances, after moving to Longmead from Cray Wanderers in January 2006. After putting pen to paper Jon said “I’m very sad to leave Tonbridge after having had a great time there but really looking forward to playing for AFC Wimbledon in front of their big crowds. Their overall aim and mine is to obtain promotion this season and eventually play in the Football League".

At Cray he was banging in goals at Level 8 of the Praymid Ryman South, Tonbridge level 7 Ryman Premier, had trails with few clubs (Norwich, Brentford, MK Dons, Swindon..) decided to stay at Tonbridge, Wimbledon signed him for 25,000 scored few goals they go up.

Scored 32 league goals for wombles this season in Blue Square South he has the quality to play higher but because of his age teams dont want to gamble on him being 27.

Seen him play quite often and always been impressed not sure if he could do a job in League One but possibly more likely to score then our strikeforce at the moment.

Didn't decide to stay at Tonbridge. Was rejected by the clubs he was at. All said he was too light-weight.

If AFC Wimbledon go up to the Conference this year I'll be surprised if he has the same impact.

  • The above report says that Goldberg wasn't at the game, but the News Shopper claims that Goldberg watched it. Which is right?
  • I know the owner of Bromley so I'll ask him next Sunday as I play vets with him.

The report above says that Goldberg wasn't on the bench but that he was at the ground.

“If I’m over on the other side of the ground with my leg in plaster then my club would have made the right decision."

is a reference to Goldberg being injured and sitting in the stand opposite the benches.
  • OK, Henry, fair enough. It seems like a night to remember down at Hayes Lane.
  • Didn't go but wish I had.

I spent lots of Monday here...

  • Apparently the brom manager got up to ask the players to let the dons score, just before he did the dons skipper ran over lobbed a water bottle at him and called him a f*cking c*nt so the bromley manager told them not to

Well he's clearly a goalscorer. 52 in 57 for Tonbridge and has 46 in 57 starts for Wimbledon. I'd expect Wimbledon to at least be a top half conference team (if they go up) so i don't see why he wouldn't continue to get goals.

Mr Sands - As for Palace's non league side can assure you the club is run and supported by a large contingent with Millwall links. Hence the large Millwall turnout yesterday at the game, all the previous crowd trouble between the two has also been Millwall V The Dons.

I will also add geographically Bromley is mainly a Millwall area. A lot of gangsters etc who've made money in inner london such as Bermondsey move out to Bromley, Bickley, Sundridge Park, Chislehurst, Keston etc and that seems to be the reason why there are so many Millwall fans around these parts.

I'd say when you got the other side up towards Hayes, Coney Hall, West Wickham then its Palace areas but in reality these parts are right on the border with Croydon anyhow.

    LOL!

Its true FOD, hence the reason for so many high profile drug busts etc in the area of late.

Not saying that all Millwall fans are gangsters etc but quite a few crooks from the areas up that way are likely to support the club

Chislehurst is full of gangsters as is Keston (have you ever been to Chapter One) but Bickley is fine. Not had a murder or a pub stabbing for, I don't know, weeks.

Tony Thompson covers the area in a fair depth in his books on gangs. Talks a lot about the dirty money used to buy property in the area as well as a few well known bars in parts of Chis. Not saying its some sort of American drug war thriller but if you drink in a few establishments around the borough you will see and hear plenty of interesting discussions.

The gangster bit is right, especially with Chislehurst & PW, but that's not the reason why there are so many Millwall fans in the area!
  • as I said earlier, not the only reason but plenty of 'faces' from places like Bermondsey/New Cross etc who are mentioned in the books on the subject do follow the lions and now live locally with their families etc.
  • Got a mate who lives in Kingsdown he says there are tons of moody types round there that moved out from Bermondsey in the eighties & nineties. Kenny Noye is from Kingsdown.

    KENNNYYYY!!!
  • convicted of killing one of my cousin's best friends, let's not glorify it.
  • And got away with killing the father of a friend from years back.
  • Apparently, after the ref had calmed everyone down,he asked the Bromley management if they would allow Wimbledon to walk the ball into the net. They refused, on the grounds that one of the staff was called a "Cheating F***ing C***!!!!
  • As I said earlier LS. The brom manager actually got up to say let the dons score, he was then confronted by the dons skipper who lobbed a water bottle in his face and called him a c**t etc. The manager then told the players to refuse to let them score.

If it's as easy as that, why havent we just told our lot to do that every game?!
