Watford appoint Brendan Rodgers as Manager. At the time they were just 3 points ahead of us. With the same squad of players, in fact having to lose two on loan to balance the books, he has galvanised them, and motivated them, and they now have 52 points. At the same time Forest were 3 points behind us. I don't know exactly when they appointed Billy Davies but with practically the same squad he has at least got Forest in with a shout. In the meantime Parky has in fact taken us backwards, not a new broom you see. Going over old ground I know but it's galling all the same.

  • I was thinking of posting something like this. There's always a few daft boys that do a thread about Davies every time Forest win a game, but there's no doubt he'll end the season with more points than Parky. Clough Jnr. has also pulled Derby out of the mire, too. I guess Wotte is a new broom that hasn't quite worked, but I'd equally argue that our squad is much better than Southampton's.

Wrong. Wotte wasn't a new broom, he was Portlevit's (sp) assistant. Agree in that even without ZZ and Racon our squad is better then the Saints. So :

Parky and Wotte - old brooms, relegated.
Rodgers and Davies - new brooms, saved and quite possibly saved.
  • whatever fans say about Billy Davies when he took over Forest on 5th January they were just 5 points ahead of us. A bit more than that now.
  • And what's the difference between us and Forest & Watford?

    Strikers.

Watford have Tommy Smith on 16 goals, Priskin on 11 and Rasiak on 5 (in 10 starts). They brought in Cowie in January and it looks like he's fitted in quickly, got 3 goals from midfield in 10 games.

Forest have Earnshaw on 11, Garner on 6 and Tyson on 5, plus McGugan on 5 from midfield.

Not loads, but compare that to us - Bailey on 11, Gray on 7 (but a fair few penalties). After them up front we had Varney with 2, Kandol on 2, Burton with 1, Waghorn and Todorov on 1.

We had Varney who was all about his work rate and getting into the channels, Gray who can't create chances for himself, Burton who can't score goals, Todorov who can't run and Waghorn who isn't yet a Championship player. That's without mentioning Dickson or McLeod who haven't played much because they are at their best no better, and most of the time worse.

Clear difference there. Good strikers, even if they aren't always scoring, will take pressure off the rest of the team. We've also missed our best midfielders for most of the season, which plays a big part of creating chances.

Not saying this is all there is too it or Parkinson isn't to blame, but it's played a huge part. If we don't have enough quality up front next season we'll struggle, even if we can keep Shelvey, Bailey and Racon.

If you look at the Championship January transfer window signings, the only (loan) striker any of the lower placed clubs signed, that has really done much is DJ Campbell up at Blackpool - 6 goals in 16 for them.

I have been staunchly anti-Parky but it does seem that he has started getting the team to play a little better in recent weeks.

Is he the right man to take us forward? - a month ago I was 100% no, now I am 50:50.

Of course i don't get to see any of what goes on dahn The Valley anymore - so I bow to those who see the whole picture.

yep, but I feel that is as much to do with the fact that we are down, everyone knows it, and the pressure is off and the players are able to play with no expectation on them. Plus, recently, we have met teams at good times, we played well at Reading BUT their recent home record is as shocking as ours. I may seem overly negative but I don't really go in for all this 'we are much better' stuff. I feel that the stuff we are seeing now is better than it was two months ago but that doesn't mean it's good enough. We've seen so much dross this season we are now accepting 'okay' performances as being good when really they are nothing better than 'okay'. That is how I feel anyway.
  • we took the cheap option and it failed ... i can't believe i'm saying this but we might as well have kept pardew and spunked his £1m compensation on a punt to stay up ......
  • Oh and you've all conveniently ignored the new broom at Norwich Bryan Gunn who looks like getting them relegated. If he doesn't it will be the new broom Billy Davies being relegated at Forest :-)

That's pretty damning. If Norwich go down too, then you have a full house of shitty old relegated brooms.

Err, he was on the staff at Naaarwich actually. Ignored, but not conveniently. And, if Forest do go down there's no doubt Davies will have outpointed Parky and Wotte with a poor squad.

It'll all be swept under the carpet by next season.
  • Agree with Scoham. If we don`t address our deficiencies in attack next season we won`t be in the play offs never mind top two.
  • You can do better, Rodders.

Do you see that, Rodders ....?

You've been given the brush off.
  • [cite]Posted By: Mortimerician[/cite]You can do better, Rodders.

Ill just brush that sweeping statement off thanks.
  • You can do better than that too, Oggy.

  • This thread is making me bristle with anger. Should now be consigned to the dustbin.
