Attendance yesterday

edited April 2009 in General Charlton
I didn't hear any announcement.

Unscientifically it was easy to park (despite being later than usual), use the gents and the queues were short enough to buy a drink at half time.

Apparently no one turned up, there is nothing in the match report on the OS. Its not possible to make a scientific or unscientific guess, given that it is a count on tickets sold, not attendance.

    BBC report 20,022
  • BBC report 20,022......
did that figure include the 6,000 season ticket holders who did not turn up!.

As per the official announcements at all games this season and as the BBC would have sourced from the club, i suspect the answer to the question is a resounding yes.

calculation of attendances was explained to us earlier this year Attendances

I thought it looked a decent turn out, and not the lowest we've had in recent weeks. good atmosphere too and the players did us proud.

People who couldn't be bothered yesterday, missed out imo.
  • Got out of Charlton onto the motorway really quickly.

I enjoyed it more than a lot of games this season. Players probably playing under a bit less pressure, they made mistakes but nothing major and just kept going.

Well if you read that bit of pr spin to use it's own words ....... "We can't leave off people who don't turn up, although we acknowledge that the word 'attendance' is not helpful in this context."

The fact is all around the ground there were empty seats, obviously the club use the Football league formula. Why would the BBC know better!.

I was not claiming the club had done anything wrong, but making an observation, and a comment to me with the greatest respect to the football league it is about people who attend, not could, should, or might attend., but one thing I do agree with the league about is that ' it is not helpful in this context' .....
  • How times have changed. We now have a duty to report those people that bought tickets but didn't turn up whereas, in the 70's, we did the opposite - allegedly of course.
  • Surely we're not the only club with a big differential between seats sold and seats occupied?

Is anybody on here privy to the "real" attendance figures for games this season?
  • [cite]Posted By: cafc.co.uk[/cite]The club also maintains a separate turnstile count as part of its safety obligations, but this figure isn't completely accurate as large numbers of people enter hospitality areas without going through the traditional entry mechanism.
This line cracks me up. So they have to keep a count of the real number of people we have in the ground for safety reasons, except in the hospitality areas, where they have no idea how many people might be running around? I might nip round for a drumstick on Saturday, that being the case.

I understand exactly why they give out the attendance figure and it's fine, just don't tell daft fibs, it insults supporters' intelligence. We should get McLaren to sponsor us next year.
