  • "It is unfortunate that people have lost their jobs, especially during these difficult times," he said. "We are in this position because of the players, because of their poor performance on the pitch, and they are responsible." said Steve Bailey.

Tell you what Steve, tell them that at the POTY 'Party'.
  • Hahah, way to go to Steve. yeh tell them then, bread roll fight. Just dont hit matty with one.

    nice one trigger. d'oh!
  • Well...they asked...I answered !!!

And yes...I have some things in mind for the POTY speech !!!!
  • Well said, Steve. Most people in your position would have given a weasel-worded 'diplomatic' answer. You told it how it is and I have enormous respect for your unflinching honesty. I reckon that speech of yours might be the best thing about the whole POTY evening!
  • I spoke from the heart and on behalf of all Charlton fans..thats how it is with me I'm afraid !!!!
Those that know me will tell you that I don't really do 'diplomatic' !!! lol !!!

In my mind the players of the year are the 31 ( yes 31 not 25! ) that have had their jobs put at risk !!!!
( including the disabled supporters coordinator apparently! )

Steve, I agree entirely with what you said. However, I personally then find it laughable to hold a POTY Dinner in their 'honour' where they will be lauded by those who think they can do no wrong. People will be clammering for autographs, clammering to have their photos taken with their heroes. The players will think 'ah, maybe we were not as bad as we thought, everyone's happy'. I really hope you stick it to them during your speech. I won't be there to hear it but maybe you can post it here afterwards for all to see.
  • I wish the club had come out with this in the initial release to be honest, it would show an awareness that I think people can relate to, or at least understand.

There is still a question in my mind though around the key decisions made around Xmas. Yes, you can blame the players and they should take a large chunk of the blame, but at the one realistic chance we had to change things around, the club made a judgement call to stick rather than twist. Now I know that was an economically driven decision, but I think that the total cost of that decision will greatly exceed the price of getting a manager that could get us out of the rut. Life's all about judgement calls, and if it had worked out, then they'd have been the smartest guys in the room. As it panned out, I believe the board must shoulder a share of the blame, too.
  • All of a sudden I'm quite interested in the POTY night!
