He did his job - as did Keith Jones. They both polarise opinions but at the time he was the best man for the job that we had in the squad. That's not to say there weren't a lot of better players in the Premiership - but they weren't playing for us.
Solid, not spectacular. I was never a big fan - but he played consistently for the best Charlton sides I have ever seen in my life - so that will do in the books of history.
He may of played so many games in the premier league under Curbs but as soon as Curbs went he was out the side and couldn't even get games in the championship.
Looking at our current position - I think we should bow to Curbs' knowledge and not the knowledge of any Charlton manager since!!!!! or even Leicester or Leeds where he went next as they both got relegated too!
I think Curbs' leaving co-incidided with Kish being a year too old for the Premiership. Just a co-incidence, but how any of us want to question our time with Curbs now is pretty bizarre

totally agree....
personally thought he was chuff but curbs knows better than me and he was there in the glory years so he's got a place in my heart
Wonderful player, but tended to charge after the ball leaving great gaps where he'd bounded from. As a fan you love that kind of commitment, but fans often miss the reasons goals are conceded and unfortunately in trying to do the jobs of others Kish sometimes didn't do his own, which must frustrate managers.
[cite]Posted By: LenGlover[/cite]We had six consecutive successful seasons in the Prem under Curbishley.
The two constants throughout that whole period (other than when injury intervened) were Dean Kiely and Radostin Kishishev.
Kish (and Deano) is a Charlton legend and fully deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as legends like Kinsella, Mendonca etc.
I never understood why so many hated and booed a proper Charlton man.
In ancient times when things were going badly, maybe the crops had failed or people were ill, or at particular religious ceremony such as yom kippur people would "give" all their sins to a domestic animal who was then driven from the town or village to die and so with it the sins and bad luck.
When he played just behind Murphy and Smertin (and Parker to a lesser degree) we had a blinding midfield. I think he was underated, and is definetly my favorite player over the last 6/7 years.
Although I have only been watching Charlton play live for 8/9 years Kish is my all time favourite. He wasn't particulary skillful but seemedto improve immensley when Di Canio joined- all of a sudden he wasput sly flicks into his game and seemd more confident- I blame Dowie for forcing him out of theclub as one of thee main contributors to our relegation.
Shouldn't think he can run much nowadays and as that was the strong point of his game, wouldn't really want him back for his Hoddlesque passing ability :-)
Right. The reason people disliked Kish was because he was signed as a right-back and when he played in midfield he was never as technically proficient as his peers, but like (luke Varney) he would run through concrete re-inforced walls if he was told to, he did it. He also mis-placed passes a fair amount, but as any Liverpool 'fan' would be incapable of telling you so does sir Steven Gerrard yet when he does it he is playing with guys 'not on the same wavelength' as him who are to blame.
Now I will say he was not the most gifted of players (who were playing out of their position giving their all) but he was a grafter and anyone who has worked on the roads or on a building site will tell you they would rather work with a Kish than a Jenson
Think watching him last night reminded me of how good & how bad he was all in the space of a few minutes. But i got all nostalgic seeing him. Top geez!
Thought his chip was the pass of the game-finding the runner perfectly: couldn't make out exactly what he got the yellow for though, was it arguing with the ref?
If Kish was good enough for Curbs, he was good enough for me. I loved his commitment but he was getting caught in possession too much in his last season with us.
Maybe. But 'caught in posession' can also mean other players not making themselves available to receive a pass or lack of movement generally within the team not creating options for the player with the ball.
So maybe being 'caught in posession too much' was not always the fault of Kish, if you look at the overall movement of other players within the team.
I thought he was overated my brother really rated him.
he was brilliant at running his arse off and putting in tackles all over the midfield but unfortunatly often when he won the ball he gave it striaght back to the opposition, and on more than a few occasions this lead to a goal against!

Kish was a cornerstone of that team. And created the platform for more gifted players to play.
Underated - but not by Curbs.
Spot on Mr Red

From this custom we have the term "scapegoat"
Why he was made a scapegoat, I don't know either.
Especially as we were doing rather well so we didn't even need a ruddy scapegoat!
We always gave the ball away a few times each game trying passes he wasn't (well at least not consistently) capable of.
Obviously now at the level we're at it wouldn't bother people, as we now have players that are accused of not trying to be the scapegoats.

On the evidence before us I would suggest that you brother knows more about football than you do.
