I can understand the experience bit, but ability wise we have better players.
I don't get it, I really don't. We've got one poster going on about Scott Parker and another saying that we have better players.. better that what?
What will we have next season? Racon (no), ZZ (no), Bailey (Possibly), Are you seriously saying that we have a mid-fielder in our squad who has the best interest of our club in his heart more than Matt Holland?
Keep him even if it is for the benefit of his experience around the squad, also good to hear himsaying these things. Hopefully it will aid us in keeping those that we want
There's going to be a hell of a lot of disruption over the summer with many players leaving and probably only a few coming in.
Keeping Holland for another year, will help keep the squad tied together, imbue (d'you like my new word?) the new players with that quintessential 'Charlton-ness'.
I have no problem with Matt Holland being here next year, as Valley floyd red said (Bailey aside -who may well go anyway)who do we have who is so much better?

I meant at the moment in Racon, ZZ and Bailey. Obviously will change next season, but if we want to get promoted he shouldn't be a regular in the team.
If those 3 all leave (and I'm sure Zheng will), I'd imagine we'd bring in at least one or two midfielders, who we'd want to offer more than Holland.
Nothing to do with the best interests of the club, I just meant on ability at the moment, with those 3, we have better players.
That must go down as the best £750k we've ever spent IMO.
Total pro' who can cover for more than one postion in a reduced squad and can help us bring on the likes of Shelvey. He'd walk into any other Div 3 side so why wouldn't we want him if we can afford him?
Matt Holland is not of an age when you are going to be building a team around him and those on here supporting him are not saying that, but it`s a brave man to say he will be of no use. Has enough still for me.
It really comes down to money and whether what Matty wants is consistent with what can be offered.
There is absolutely no way he would be in my starting 11.
But as a versatile midfield/defender he could actually save us money by covering several positions in a much reduced squad and be an almost permanent flexible sub. Relatively speaking his injury record has been excellent.
Plus with so much transition some continuity would be good and there will be a number of youngsters coming thru either already at the club or new who would benefit from his experience.

Plus ZZ of course though he his certain to leave.
The poster who said offer Holland's wages to Bailey to try and persuade him to stay was spot on.
That's if we're serious about bouncing straight back of course.
If the aim is just to avoid relegation to the bottom tier then keep him by all means...
"Yeah but he wouldnt have scored the goals that Bailey did either"
