Welling Vets v. Charlton Vets at Parkview Road

edited March 2009 in General Charlton
This match was originally played on a very wet and cold evening on 30 October 2008. Unfortunately the game had to be abandoned 10 minutes into the second half when Welling player Derek Brown broke his leg in two places.

The Charlton Vets have agreed to a re-match with all proceeds going to Derek Brown, to be played at Parkview Road on Thursday 30 April 2009, ko 7.30pm.

Please try and come along to support us!

  • i remember seeing derek brown playing for welling.

on their website, welling also seem to have a Dorian Smith playing for them now.
Midfielder Dorian Smith spent most of his career at Tooting & Mitcham, where he attracted the interest of Championship club Charlton Athletic. Addicks boss Alan Pardew signed Smith after a two week trial at the club.

As part of the deal, Smith was loaned back to Tooting but would train with Charlton. Smith was released by the Addicks in July 08 and despite interest from many League clubs, he signed for Welling United in August 08.
  • For a brief moment i thought you were referring to our animal lover friends....
  • Thought i'd bump this up

  • Might pop along
  • Gutted , wanted to come to this but going to a gig .

Was curious to see what Andy Jones looks like now
  • should be a good one. I remember watching a lot of those welling players.

1st prize in the raffle is a signed welling shirt, 2nd prize a signed charlton shirt. Controversial decision.... ;0)
  • Gary Abbott!! That takes me back. I remember writing a letter to Lennie Lawrence telling him all about an exciting young striker called Gary Abbott who was doing so well for Welling at the time & advising him to buy him quickly. He actually wrote back saying "Thanks. We are well aware of Gary Abbott. Watch this space." So I did, but nothing ever happened. LOL. God how many stupid letters must football managers get from deluded supporters, telling them who to buy?! Well, I was very young at the time.

  • If anyone is going, can you take some photos of the ex- CAFC players and stick them on here. We can then try and guess who they are.
  • As we will be the official CAFPA photographers on the night we will do our best to accommodate this request.
Mike Flanagan is going to atttend but is not playing look out for him in the Charlton dugout.
Thanks Riscardo for bumping this up.
