mcleod back at the den ?

IZALE McLeod is set for showdown talks with Kenny Jackett to rescue his loan deal at The Den.

The Charlton striker joined the Lions until the end of the season in January, but his time with the League One promotion hopefuls came to a dramatic end when McLeod clashed with Jackett after not even making the bench against Oldham on February 28.

Millwall claimed his deal had been cancelled by “mutual consent” two days later, a claim which was rejected by the Addicks who pointed out McLeod couldn’t play again for them this season under the terms of his loan.

Reports elsewhere claimed McLeod had already returned to the Lions on Friday morning, but Jackett confirmed after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Leicester no meeting had yet taken place.

He said: “I’m going to speak to Izale at some stage this week and just talk to him about where we go from here. We shall see after that conversation.

“We’ve had a cooling off period and we will see. Obviously our talks will be held in private, but we will see what the situation is come Monday.”

Why can't he play for us?

Surely as he is our player and we are in different divisions it means he should be able to play?

    What a stupid ruling

Even with signing Kandol on loan, we have him, Dicko, Toddy and the inexperienced Fleetwood - four strikers for two starting places and one on the bench. Curious then that we didn't have a recall clause in case on of the above joined Gray on the injury list.

We should never ever ever be loaning players to our bitterest rivals

I don't think we could have a recall clause because it was until the end of the season. Bouazza had one, but he could only be recalled in the transfer window.

But honestly, we were a bit daft ........ they could have jiggered up a standard 93 day loan, complete with recall clause after 28 days.

Although, I don't suppose he was ever going to play for us again, so it seemed a bright idea to get somebody else to pay his wages, because we need to free up budget to bring in Kandol.

Perhaps Millwall themselves insisted on an end of season loan to have McLeod available for any play-off finals....?

Loan rules explained in the email bulletin.
    Loan rules and regulations

Some fans have mentioned they don't understand why on-loan striker Izale McLeod cannot return to Charlton from Millwall and play for the Addicks given the recent dispute - so here's a helpful Bulletin cribsheet.

The key to this issue is the difference between 'standard' loans and 'emergency' loans.

McLeod was signed by the Lions on a standard loan, which last from one transfer window to the next, ie from August to January or from January to May (the end of the season).

Typically, season-long loans are in effect two standard loans, with parent clubs occasionally able to recall their players during a period in January, or host clubs occasionally able to terminate loans. The former situation occurred with Hameur Bouazza in January.

After a standard loan has been agreed, under league rules a player cannot play for anyone else, even his parent club, until the next transfer window opens.

A similar situation affected Darren Randolph earlier this season, when although he returned from a season-long loan at Hereford United in November, he was unable to represent the Addicks until January.

'Emergency' loans are, confusingly, nothing of the kind. They are merely short-term loans that last a minimum of 28 days (one month) and a maximum of 93 days (three months).

Under emergency loans, players cannot be recalled by their parent club in the first 28 days, but once the loan period has been extended to two or three months, players can be recalled at any time with 24 hours' notice.

There are even more rules relating to the number of emergency and standard loans permitted in a season, and in a squad at one time, not to mention separate 'emergency' loans for goalkeepers. Football club secretary Chris Parkes has a complicated job.......

And yeah I think they probably did want the possibility of him being around for the play-offs.

They may have paid a fee and certainly agreed to pay his salary. He's not added much on the field and seems disruptive, so as you say having budget for other players was the key thing.

Maybe we need smallwall to keep paying his wages?

Yep...I think so too, Millwall paying his wages allows us to pay Kandol's wages (or Soares etc).

we should always loan players that will fail our bitterest rivals(crystal palace have taken advantage of us where this is concerned) ... so no problem with millwall having a player who isn't gonna improve them

is the step from league two to league one really that big? He was joint topscorer and league 2 player of the year when he joined us. He's not been amazing at millwall but if we give him a chance and let him get settled in at charlton then he could be a decent player for us next year.
