Back from the game

Still can't believe we werent awarded a penalty at the end, never seen anything so obvious before. We all just stood there totally dismayed.... sums it all up.
I felt the team generally put in a good shift. Zeng, Soares, Bailey, stood out. Kandol looked pretty slow, caught offside loads , I feel two up front would of given us more possesion overall. Its hard to make the judgement about the defence when your watching from halfway but they were generally dealing with things ok. We did miss Ward, Holland busted a gut as usual. Their crowd really were there 12th man and generated a lot of atmosphere before they scored the 2nd and in the end I feel caused the ref to bottle out of the decision to award an obvious penalty. Charlton looked more consistent, heads didnt go down, the supporters were fully behind the team right to the end.

Thanks for that shrew sounds like we gave it a go and we seem a more unified team.
But seems luck is not with us at the moment and hasn't been for a while....I know Reading hit the woodwork loads the other night but I'm not going to let that spoil my point!
  • Cheers for the report Shrew.
  • Zeng does look a class above, but was very shy about getting stuck in or jumping for the ball. I guess a mixture of still coming back from injury and just not that stlye of player. Butterfield looked fairly solid and did a job. Youga was more composed with the ball then usual but looked on the slow side against their no 7. I think we did miss someone like Sam who takes on players down the wing.
  • Shrew, my brother was furious. He said it was the most blatant penalty decision he has ever seen not given.
  • He was just thrown to the floor... end of. A penalty.

Never mind the penatly that wasn''t given. The real question I want the answer to is where did Parky get his match-day suit?

I'm not clever enought to cut and paste pictures here. But take a look at the pic on the O/S. There's McCarthy in his track suit. And there's Kins in his usual state of semi-nakedness. And in between them stands Parky wearing a suit that even the Oxfam shop would reject (complete wth a Peter Mandelson/geography teacher jumper under it).

Not criticising him, I hasten to add. In fact, I rather admire him for chosing to look like the anti-Mourinho !

We more than matched the league leaders for 90 minutes. If only we had a goalscorer, we wouldn't be relying on shocking last minute penalty decisions. It WAS the most blatant penalty ever. Wolves supporters I spoke to afterwards couldn't believe the decision not to give it either. The referee was shocking throughout though: a blatant homer. Nobody else in the ground knows why he awarded Wolves their penalty.

I am so frustrated tonight but really proud of my team. We deserved at least a draw, and we would have got it but for bad luck, lack of a goalscorer & terrible refereeing.

If Racon & ZZ had been fit for the season we would not be where we are now. Pardew's decision to sell Iwelumo also looks more & more outrageous as every week goes by.
  • Glad to hear that Red Pete.
  • How many die hards up there today fella?
  • Difficult to tell as we were sitting in the 3rd row from the front. Probably 200 - 300 at a guess.

    lol!

In that picture he looks as if he's either hailing a taxi (probably!) or he's about to send kinsella on!

Generally agree with this, except: Soares. He did stand out, but mainly because he didn't put a foot right all game. Feel sorry for him because he isn't a right winger and has really not done himself justice. Spoke to a couple of journos after the game that felt saw it the same way so I'm massively surprised at your assesment.

Awful ref. Their players had no idea what the pen was for. To be fair the crowd did not influence him because they weren't claiming it either.

Elliott: 7 cleared his lines well and great save on the pen.
Butterfield: 6 decent shift, did little wrong, but didn't get over halfway much
Youga: 7 frustrated Kightly into a booking and forced him out to the left wing at one where he stood a better chance. Improving.
Hudson: 6.5 solid and none of the horror errors that we've seen this season
Holland 6.5 generally brilliant against Wolves big strikers: conceded an own-goal and "pen" but still came out with his head high.
Soares 5: failed to beat a man all day. Looked lost out wide. Guessing this will be his last game for us.
Bailey 7: tireless, but patently not a left mid. Set up the goal with a nice lay off and put in a number of saving tackles. Fantastic player. Would have scored even higher if he hadn't tucked in so much and left the flank exposed.
ZZ: 7.5 This is what we've missed. Faded towards the end but supported Kandol well. Premiership class touch.
Spring: 6 Back on solid ground. Only tried simple things, but did them well.
Racon: 6.5 With ZZ doing the fancier stuff freed him up to just be neat and tidy which he was.
Kandol 5.5 A bit off the pace. Got little change out of the Wolves defence and was a bit isolated with no obvious wingers as an outlet. Won a great header in the run up to the goal. Caught offside under no pressure when he had acres of space and was looking along the line which, as a professional, should simply not be happening.

Dickson: 5 Saw little of the ball, when he got it his tricks weren't coming off, much to the irritation of our bench. I'm ahuge fan but in honesty did himself few favours
Ambrose: 5 Failed to improve on Soares's contribution. Worked hard, delivered little, unfortunately
Shelvey: Almost no impact in the short time he was on.

The glut of central midfielders is getting beyond a joke. We started with six players for whom that is their natural position. Overall we deserved a bit more from the game, but it's the story of the season. Mental ref did not help, but we just didn't make enough chances. Playing without wingers and one man up front is not sustainable. We had less crosses than a vampire's house.

    Unnecessarily harsh, Nigel.
  • Just got back via a few drinks at some Euston pub.

We put in a good shift as someone said, Kandol though must of been caught offside about 8 or 9 times throughout the game, very frustrating because we had some good chances.

How he didn't give the pen is beyond me. Wolves crowd were very good to be fair even when we equalised, I've never known such a muted away support as we had today, it was fairly dire. Reading couldn't of been more different in terms of atmosphere, when ZZ smashed it in i nearly got chucked out for celebrating on the steps - such a joke.

ZZ is a class act, as is Racon. Be a shame to see those two go. Not sure what the point in bringing Jonjo on for a few mins was.

Yep Mort , oops, your correct for Soares read Racon
  • I spoke to a few Wolves fans in the pub after the game. They thought Youga was our best player and a cut above thier full backs. As was said above took Keightly out of the game one two players Wolves could use in the premiership.

Wolves were poor. I think they will "do a Derby" next year.

I feel Parky is starting to show he knows what he is doing. While a number of the players playing now will not be with us next year, I feel he will bring in a few good enough at our level to rebuild.

Agree I feel he'll know League One better than Pardew would have, got to be a few good players out there with contracts expiring, just like here.

I'm no big fan of Lloyd Sam but I'd like to see him in the team now. If he wants to he can play a big part in League One. Will be time for him to start living up to his potential and find some consistency with his crossing and start scoring goals.

I presume it was you that I saw getting flanked by two heavies in flourescent jackets! This kind of crap is killing football.

May of done. Didn't actually get thrown out, but they had words. Ridiculous. Because of the leg room i had my legs out on the steps as i was last on the row, so when i stood up i did so onto the steps, to which they replied ''We need to keep the stairway clear'' - ! Not exactly thousands of us! I stood up to sing VFR and was told to sit down.

  • Well there were 3 or 4 blocks of the lower tier.

all will be revealed in saturdays program;-)
  • My guess would be 314.
  • It was difficult to get any sort of singing going as we were sat in quite a narrow strip and fro some reason everyone was actually sitting in the actual seats printed on the ticket which stops any moving around to where any more vocal people are. I was amongst a group of about 10 that tried getting singing going but every one around were silent. Folk around me were very entertaining though. Big guy with light blue baseball cap with small son who was in exactly the same gear kept us entertained.Cheers for that !
  • I think i know who you mean, i must of been very close to you. I started a couple of songs off but as you say only about 10 people joined in.

I wasn't in the seat printed on my ticket, i waited until everyone was seated to put myself with the singers, but there weren't any!
  • I was sat right in front of Norman, famous for his furry hat & those headphones. Throughout the entire game he was going "Ding dong", and then updating all within earshot on the latest scores from other games. Made my day, "Ding dong". Thanks Norman, you are a star mate!
  • Norm is a legend.

In the old covered end, he used to sit in the back row of E Block and kept our whole section updated with the latest scores.
