    Nicky Bailey future Charlton hero
  • Oh :P
    Sorry about that.

    Still great news though, eh?
  • Brilliant news! He's been terrific for us this season, he should be made captain next season.
  • He's not said he'll definitely stay. Happy yes, but at the moment there are no offers. If a decent Championship side comes along he'll probably want to go.
"I've still got two years left on my contract at Charlton, so who knows what's going to happen," he told the club's official website.

"I'm a Charlton player until something else happens and I am happy to be playing for Charlton.
  • If the team are not talking about possible relegation then they are even more stupid than they look on the pitch.
  • Bailey has improved immensley since he has stopped nitpicking with the referees when decisions went against him. I still think he'll go if a decent offer came in for him. He wouldn't be stupid enough to say he is unhappy at Charlton as the team are trying and I stress trying to keep it together in light of their current predicament.
  • We've been screwed over by so many players in the past that just for the time being I'd like to believe he'd stay.
  • I think he will go...

whcih si a flippin shame, unless we are overpaying him....
  • Getting him to stay could be as crucial as when we were relegated from the Premiership the first time and kept Kinsella.

Time to stay calm, keep the manager and the likes of Racon and Bailey, selling a ZiZi for decent money (like Mills)and bounce back.
  • Zizi is out of contract so selling him is not an option, he will walk. Therefore if we have to sell someone it will be Bailey / racon or Shelvey being the most likely to raise some money.

  • Bailey is player of the season without any competition but I am not sure he is captain material. He does have a go at players on the pitch but a captain needs to be more than this. Hudson is not up to the job.

Who else then should be made captain? Just as he'll be PoTY as there's no competition then if Hudson is not captaincy material then I can't see who other than Racon fits the bill.
  • What sort of bids does anyone imagine we'd get for Bailey and Racon? Obviously not going to be £2m+ but I'd think (or at least hope) anything under £1m they'd definitely reject.

Next season's captain might not be at the club yet.
  • Next season's captain might not be at the club yet.

    .......

True, but with the sort of money we are likely to have to spend on bringing players in (about zero) I can't see that we are going to make the sort of signing that will command respect and lead the team unless a new investor comes in. Therefore it's likely that next season's captain will already be at the club.
  • Next season's skipper is likely to be an older head, plenty of experience and maturity.

Could be a player like Murty or some other 30something, slipping down a division to keep his playing career going.
Someone who just loves to play, and can't bear the thought of now just being a bit part squad player in a higher division.
  • Murty would be a good call, but most managers prefer someone to captain the team who plays in the centre of the team - either a CB or central midfielder. A RB might be a bit too peripheral to make an impact.
  • I put this on here a few days ago.
