  • Sorry, I don't buy this. He had a poor game against Watford but he was in good company as none of the defenders had good games. He played Ok against Donny which he can hardly have trained with the team for more than a few minutes. He was much better against Reading who, out of the three teams he has played against, carried the most offensive threat.

Why is he a disgrace? I also don't get this.

Because when a player comes to Charlton unless he plays like a world cup winner from the start he must be a disgrace and unfit to wear the shirt etc. At Charlton we don't tolerate anything but European Cup winners and/or internationals of the highest class and you are only as good as your last pass/tackle/header.

He's hardly played for Palace and therefore is bound to be off the pace and let's face it if he is considered surplus to requirements at Selhurst then it's likely that he isn't going to play brilliantly for us - bear in mind that Graeme Murty who was considered a successful loanee attracted a fair bit of criticism after his first couple of games.

The question is - is he better than what we already have in that position?
  • He's played about twenty games for Palace this season and been a constant presence in their squad.

He was OK against Donny, clearly lacks in pace and struggled with their mobility. Didn't see Palace but the lack of mobility is present in the centrall defenders whilst Youga's mobility takes him out of places fb's should be. Give the guy a chance.
  • He's played football at Championship level for many seasons now - so he'll know his way around the block.

Unfortunately we aren't in a position to attract world beaters as hard as that is for me to come to terms with! I would prefer Moots to be given a run in the side but it seems unlikely he will ever play again for us, Murty has gone back to Reading, what else can Parky do? As I said before I don't see how Butterfield could be termed a disgrace given his decent service for Grimsby Town and whisper it Crystal Palace, he comes here- in my view with a clean slate irrespective of who his parent club is, and as long as he does his best for us then fair enough, everyone is entitled to the odd off game (happens every week to someone) .
  • He`s a professional footballer with a good career behind him. Whether he`s good enough is a different argument. One thing he is not and thats a disgrace. Some people won`t let go any Palce connection however absurd.
  • That's right, Shooters .... he might have had a poor match against Watford, but his professional record shows that he's generally competent at 2nd tier level.

He's no Luke Young, and it's doubtful whether he'll ever play for England - but then we're no longer a Prem club and now attract a lower quality of player.

if he has a go and plays for the shirt, then we can't ask more than that of him.

    Bang on.

  • I've only seen him v Reading, and was actually very impressed - a right back who can tackle and hold his position is far better than anything else we have at the moment! He also looked really chuffed at the end with the result.

    Thank you, Weegie.

That's next season's number 2 shirt sorted, then.

    Ward at 5.

    Kandol at 9.

Thank God for loanees. Next season's side is starting to take shape ...... (!)

    For once ....?

Won't I be proved right at the end of the season, when by some miracle we end up not actually being relegated....?
    Non-believers, eh ....? *shrugs shoulders*

  • It has been revealed to me that releasing my inner chi of hoping we stay up will provide the psychic force needed so that there will come to pass a moment in time when all the cosmic tumblers will fall into place and we win the next 8 games (a draw v Norwich will be enough)

    Exactly, Henry.

    You just need to believe.

  • I thought he was utterly diabolical against Donny. Actually, I'd go so far to say, one of the worst players I've ever seen in a Charlton shirt. But. Apparently he played well at Reading and I remember when we signed another rightback so diabolically atrocious to provoke a similar reaction, a certain Kishishev. Admittedly I was one of those jumping on his back but maybe we speak too soon. Drafted straight into the side ahead of Moo2 (what the hell is going on there), I wonder if there is more to come from Butterfilled.
