A quick update regarding Jimmy Seed stand......

edited March 2009 in General Charlton
Had a email back from staduim operations manager Mike everett here is a quote from the email i sent him regarding moving home fans into the jimmy "super" seed stand.

"I am afraid that this is a non starter as 1500 or even 2000 away fans would take up half of the west lower, or even east stand, and with segregation costs, toilet facilities this is just not practical."

Rections?

Good on Mick (I think he's Operations Director, not Manager) for responding.

The same position that the club took when Pardew raised this idea last season.
  • Has Mick got a brother called Rick?
  • Yes, twins I think.

    lol
  • Mick get's his son to respond to all his correspondence.

    Bloody nepotism :-)

have any of the away attendances been anything like that level (2k) in league one?

Leeds have been selling out their allocation and Leicester must be taking a lot away. Millwall would bring 3k to the valley.

They can barely get 7k at the New Den.

They're support is part time and is similar in a way to glory hunters. They can get big numbers for the big games but for a standard league at home match they'll get 7k and only take a few 100 away if there's no chance of going wight off.
  • just don't sell jimmy seed/A and B block East stand season tickets that way for expected bigger attendances it can be used
  • According to Leicester, the average away turnout this season at their place has been 1,200.

Admittedly Leicester is in the middle of the country, but equally people like to come to London and clubs have London support, whereas I doubt if Leicester is much of a tourist destination or many clubs have a significant support in the city.
  • The Jimmy Seed Stand is a dreadful place to watch football. Quite frankly I'd never pay money to go there. The whole idea of putting home fans in there is joke considering we are going to struggle to fill our existing seats as it is.
  • well i hope we will sell the same amount of tickets, after all we are charlton fans and not the championship fans....
  • Not going to happen Red.
  • no i doubt it too,but i do think the last thing we need is a half empty stadium,we need to get right behind them and get them back up!!
  • Dont think it would be fair to ship in large amounts of school children on freebies either. It could scar them for life.

Perhaps we could offer a Euthanasia package for the very old. A footy equivalent of the Last Supper.

I've never gone with that airline, are they deadly?

I hate the kids for a quid thing sometimes. I always seem to end up with some retarded 15 year old CHAV sitting next to me whose idea of watching football is swearing at the ref and singing the Addams family song.

  • My favourite on naming stands has got to be Man City's dilemma in honouring Colin Bell. The Bell End! That's class

    Is that right? "dreadful" eh?

If you think that then I would suggest that you need to get out more.

Hey, guess what, you wouldnt have to sit there.

Some people like a bit of atmosphere, if you don't theres the rest of the stadium to sit in.

And if you think that's dreadful, you should see the state of the stadia we'll be visiting next season!!!
    ;-)
  • Eight of the current League One clubs have average crowds under 5,000 and another 11 are between 5,000 and 8,000.

That leaves Millwall (8,136), MK Dons (10,186), Huddersfield (13,425), Leicester (18,556) and Leeds (23,042).

Colchester, Brighton and Northampton are the only clubs selling more than two thirds of their seats, in all three cases because they have very small capacities.

Personally, I wouldn't expect too much of an atmosphere anywhere . . .
  • Does that include The Valley ... ?

    ;o)

No Oggy, The Valley will be a veritable cauldron of noise, passion and thermos flasks!
  • noise, passion and thermos flasks

Great name for a book !

Great name for a book !

More like, "Silence, heckling and thermos flasks".

Great place to play for away players.
  • Division 3 next season Oggy

When we've been there on the last 2 occasions, we were comparitively loud for the size of the crowds, so we may see the passion return
