[cite]Posted By: razil[/cite]the reality a lot of people fail to spot here is the state of our squad, we would have been relegated the following year anyway with that squad. anyway old ground so I'm off..

lets deal in facts and no what might haves and the only facts are that he consistently delivered prem football.

Spot on. The squad did need improving but as the 47 points showed it was not so shabby.

My feeling at the time was that losing the Cup 1/4 final was the final straw. If we had won the home leg, as we should have, who knows. Curbs could have broken Seed's game record and taken us to a final but I still think we would have left.
  • [cite]Posted By: McLovin[/cite] To be fair it's my fault for listening to a show made by idiots for idiots. They will lie and sensationalise in the knowledge that most listners lack the smarts to interpret it.

Wouldn't say all the listeners are idiots but it is crap radio. Presenters toss a coin to decide who will say black and the other white and off they go. Same every show.
  • As I have said before- The media really seem to hate Charlton fans having an opinion that doesn't fit into their cozy concept of 'lil ol Charlton', it's all well and good these tabloid hacks having the benefit of hindsight but the reality is some fans thought we could push on to the next level, some wanted it with Curbs others with another manager. What was wrong with fans wanting their club to attempt the next level? The fact that the next level has turned into what we are experiencing now was the furthest thing from anyones mind at that time. The media love these look where they are now stories, the other year it was Leeds, last year it was Leicester, this year it's us... next year it's...
Let's hope they give us as much coverage when we recapture our former glories!

I fully expected to get slated for this but its how I feel - I want passion, I want excitment, I don't want to defend a one goal lead for 89 minutes. The writing was on the wall when we started one up front against West Brom when they were crap and still beat us 4-1 and we're at home.

So yes, the Curbs days were great (apart from the last 3) and I never expected we'd fall as far as we have but beware hindsight and rose tinted glasses.

We've survived div.3 before and we will again

Sorry Les I don't get it.

'Passion' There isn't any and hasn't been in the last 3 years.

'Excitement' I fail to see getting stuffed for the last 3 years exciting.

'I don't want us Defending a 1 - 0 lead' You've got your wish on this one alright. Not only have we not got a clue how to do it but we gift the majority of teams the 1 - 0 lead.
  • re: talksport, please don't put Hawksbee and Jacobs in the 'shit radio' category Henry, they always put a smile on my face.

So does Alan Brazil for that matter, if only for the fact that the station glorifies the fact that he's a fat old drunk!
  • [cite]Posted By: razil[/cite]he had run out of steam it was clear for everyone to see, and wasn't interested in a new deal - FACT

    True.

It was a mutually agreed upon time for a change.

Curbs had gotten tired and had run out of new ideas, and the club needed to see if someone else could take us to a new level. Unfortunately, that level was down.

Curbs had gotten tired and had run out of new ideas.

maybe we should have given him 6 months off, when he came back to the prem,he was able to steer west ham clear of trouble, because that's what he does.
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite]to say we would get relegated after that season ,if curbs had stayed,(47points 1/4 finals of the cup) is as ridiculous as me saying we're staying up and bringing 2k in fans to wolves and i'll be one of them..... it just aint happening;-)[/quote]

This was due to a good start, however Murphy and Smertin had jumped ship by the 2nd half, and we needed some major investment, which according to Curbs wasn't offered him.
