Player ratings

My view on tonight:

Elliott 7 couple of poor clearnces, but he didn't half try, and, my god, he cares...
Butterfield 7 pleasantly impressed
Youga 4 dodgy, dodgy, dodgy, but he doesn't hide
Hudson 7 solid tonight
Ward 6 not wholly convinced, but not bad
Soares 5 not sure
Racon 6 not as dominant as I would have liked
Spring 5 lightweight Bryan Hughes as said before
Bailey 8 put in one hell of a shift
ZZ 7 class above as a footballer, but lacks killer impact
Kandol 5 first time I'd seen him 'live' - had high hopes, but disappointed by his lack of movement

Subs
Ambrose 6 did I really see him win a shoulder challenge??
Dicko 6 tried his best
Holland n/a not on long enough to rate

Comments

  • did Kandol or did he not supply bailey for our goal?

Surely for that he deserves a 6?

    Fair point, Daz.
  • Just back. Think your ratings are perhaps light all the way down. For me our best performance away from home this season. Not one to accuse refs of bias but feck me he was bias.
  • Kandol was rubbish tonight, apparently.

Turned his man beautifully and laid the ball into the path of Bailey, to ram home putting us in front.

Won the freekick, which Bailey delivered for Hudson to head home for the equaliser.

    ;o)

I have high standards, Brunello ;-)

Thought it was similar performance to Swansea - if anything, defence looked more shaky at times tonight. Compared to then, ref was fine tonight, apart from awful (and crucial) penalty decision.

And were you there, Oggy? ;-)

Yes, he laid on the first nicely. The free kick was a bit lucky. I had higher hopes from what I'd read about him - thought he looked a bit ponderous and chased very little, Just my opinion.
  • If only, Weegie. Listened to 1st half commentary and odds and sods around the net.
    That's all.

Did you really drink all that vino ...? *very surprised*

Of course. I don't get much chance in Scotland normally ;-)

Kandol was being the focal point of our attacks, he can't run everywhere. The ref was summed up in the first minute when Kandol robbed their centreback and knocked the ball into the space behind only to be hauled back, no free kick.

Also Racon deserves at least one more point for the mazy run in the second half where he put three of theirs on their arses

  • I thought Kandol had a good game up there on his own. Spring was better than Saturday. Soares was poor again. He can't keep on keeping Sam out or even Wagstaff. Bailey was outstanding as was Hudson. Thought Ward looked solid. Youga was better than normal but he still worries me. ZZ was okay. Butternut played ok as did Elliott.
  • A lot of people are saying that ButterButt played much better last night.
  • My views - certainly a better performance than I was expecting. Stand out players for me were Bailey, Racon, ZZ and Hudson. Kandol worked hard on his own but was mostly beaten in the air by Alex Pearce who I thought seemed pretty good for Reading. Rest played ok.

Desperate shame that ZZ has been out all year. Good touch and a bit of intelligence, and the ability to carry the ball up the pitch. If we can keep Racon and Bailey next season I would be a lot more confident of promotion.

I thought Reading were distinctively average - just shows the fine lines in this league when you look at the 2 performances against Reading this year.

The more games Rob Elliot plays in, the more of a hero he becomes to be. I don't really know why - perhaps the way he was looking round at the charlton fans in the second half looking like he was one of us.

Really enjoyed last night I have to say, never mind the result. It was FUN - something that (understandably) we've probably forgotten that following your team can be sometimes.
  • Elliott 6 Left his near post exposed for one of the goals
Butterfield 6 Hunt ran him ragged, he barely crossed the half-way line
Youga 7 Has had two good games in succession, stops crosses, but poor distribution. Always gets forward
    Hudson 6 not wholly convinced
    Ward 6 not wholly convinced
Soares 5 consistently fails to show why he is favoured over contracted players
Racon 8 one misplaced pass but otherwise the hub of all good work
    Spring 3 Was he playing?
Bailey 8 always wanted the ball, whether of a Charlton player or Reading
ZZ 7 showed how to do the simple things but in a way that hurt the opposition
Kandol 6 Isolated, but worked hard

A good performance, dominated midfield without creating too much. This is not how to play 4-5-1
