Ambrose feels the pain of a second heartbreak
Ben Hunt
10.03.09 Darren Ambrose spoke today about his heartbreak at Charlton's involvement in another relegation battle.
The midfielder, who joined them from Newcastle in July 2005, experienced relegation from the Premier League in 2007 and they now look set to drop into the third tier of English football. Charlton, who face Reading tonight, are 12 points adrift from safety.
And 25-year-old Ambrose, whose contract expires in the summer, said: "We know what the challenge is and we are fighting for our lives to get out of it.
"You don't want to be involved in relegation but I know what it feels like from when we dropped out of the Premier League.
"I am gutted at what has happened. I love Charlton, I love the place. I love the training ground and being around the players. I love The Valley.
"I've not really thought too much about the future but the ideal scenario would be us getting out of the situation we are in and then talking to Charlton about a new contract. I'd like to stay.
"I've no doubt that in five years we will be back in the Premier League."

LOVL...I've just spat out a mouthful of coffee
How long before this thread becomes another "Darren Ambrose: talented enigma or talentless waster" debate? ;0)
...........
Translation: My loan deal at Ipswich didn't work out and no one has offered me anything like what I want so please Mr Parkinson make me an offer...
and what he supposed to say - we wont ever be back in the prem league. at least he said 5 years time not 2.
I think this needs debating further!
But yes, I read his comments in the programme on Sat and thought fair play to the lad. Especially as he wasn't even on the bench on Sat, which seemed a bit harsh.
ps : it seems a good job, being a football reporter on the Standard. You get sent all the programmes from Saturday's games involving London clubs - and then you rewrite them as original copy for the Mon and Tues papers !
Cynical but perhaps true, who knows. Maybe not getting an offer from Ipswich was a bit of wake up call.
What I've always wondered but have never seen debated here before is whether is is a talented enigma or a talentless waster. I feel the former
my heart bleeds for them !!!!!
Shame he is a scapegoat
You gotta remember their careers are slowly going down the pot - Their reputations also.
By the way i am only meaning the players that want to give it a go!
Ambrose's career has gone into a nose-dive. A couple of years ago he was playing in the Premiership, an England U21 international and now he can't make the bench of the team rooted to the bottom of the CCC.
Doubtless there'll be a team out there willing to take a punt on him, but I doubt it'll be anywhere near his current wages.
"I've not really thought too much about the future but the ideal scenario would be us getting out of the situation we are in and then talking to Charlton about a new contract. I'd like to stay."
Which suggests to me: "If we stay up I'm in, if not, I'm off."
The midfielder has rejoined the Blues on loan until January from Coca-Cola Championship rivals Charlton.
And having returned to the club where he started his career, he is already dreaming of a permanent move back to Portman Road.
This is what Darren Ambrose said when he left us for Ipswich.
“I’m delighted to be back here and had the best part of my career at Ipswich.
“I grew up as a youngster at the club and when the chance came to come back I jumped at it.
“The club is on the rise and when you look around the squad you have to believe promotion is a possibility.
“There are some top-quality players and a top-class manager and I know how determined he is to get this club back into the Barclays Premier League.”
I don't see the committment to Charlton TBH.
I think he's been quite loyal to us. When we got relegated he could have probably of moved on then and there but he came out and said he wanted to stay and help us back up.
I think he's main problem is he is not a winger. When he plays just behind a striker he is much more effective.
Oh come on SA what do you expect the bloke to say - He's no different to any other loan player. He's got to say the rigth things after all we wanted to get rid of him.
At the time Pardew said on the OS, that changes needed to be made and the decision taken to move Ambrose on, new blood was needed and it would free up funds for loans.
We got Waghorn.
The bloke is poor excuse for a footballer and I am not going to fall for all his waffle in the programme, he would have joined Ipswich in a heartbeat had they liked the look of him.
Can't blame the player for believing he was no longer wanted at Charlton.
Maybe, the Ipswich rejection jolted him out of his comfort zone - and at 25, married with a baby, he realises it's now time to grow up.
There's been a marked change in his attitude since he came back.

it's their fault, they are paid enough, to me Ambrose have never really justified a place in our first 11, to lightweight wherever he plays.
Maybe couldn't afford him but would like to have him all next season in Div 2 or 3.
has there ? Can't say I've noticed it. But then again he's hardly featured since his return. That says it all for me.
“I’m delighted to be back here and had the best part of my career at Ipswich.

.......
Just the standard PR stuff that players come out with. You can't expect him to say that he isn't committed to a club that he'd just joined.
Yeah though I do believe he does like both Ipswich and Charlton more than most if not all clubs. He's said ideally he wants to stay here and us stay up, rather than say nothing or talk about waiting until the summer. Rommedahl said in January 07 he wouldn't play in the Championship. Ambrose hasn't said he won't play in League One. I think he'd stay if he could, but I doubt we'll afford him. Time we get rid of players like him anyway, we need more reliable players that you know you'll get a good performance out of every week, where every you play them.
I would rather you had quoted that part of my post below, Large - that might signal a change in Ambrose' attitude as much as anything else )
