Ward

edited March 2009 in General Charlton
I stayed till the very sorry end on Saturday. Fully understand that Ward has played for Watford however he was walking off laughing and joking with the Watford players and coaching staff. That is a disgrace and just outlines the type of mentality all of our loan players and current squad have.

I also think when Toddy came on he just strolled around and did not chase down any balls, he needs to go.

I disagree, Ward is welcome to laugh and joke with Watford players and coaching staff, why is it a disgrace, we lost should he have refused to chat to his friends like a sore loser?

Toddy does need to go and will at the end of the season, we could however get rid of him now and pay off his contract early but would this save us money probably not!
  • The fact is to most players loaned or not, its a job not a passion how many players play for teams they support not many. Thats why after games they can walk of laughing seen it many times.
  • Not something any of us like to see after a defeat but in fairness Ward was one of our better players during the match, not that that says much, so I don't question his commitment even though he is a loan player.
  • Come the last game of the season when we are down, lets see how you feel when these players are laughing and joking around!
  • There's usually players and/or coaches that know each other and have a chat before or after the game, I don't see the problem with it.
  • I will be laughing and joking around with my mates - so what?

Are you saying he should not have any friends unless they are CAFC staff and players?

I think the point being made is that a committed player should be too gutted after a defeat to muck about with the oppo and I can empathise with that viewpoint.

As I said earlier though I don't question Ward's commitment in this instance.
  • I liek Ward and would like to keep him. Its just hard to take watching players leave the field with smiles on their faces after such a poor display! I said nothing there were a few behind me going mental at Ward, he just put his head down and walked down the tunnel.
  • I dont question his commitment but do question his judgement / intelligence.

I saw the same thing and was pretty hacked off about it. Sure he is mates with them but it is pretty poor judgement to stay on the pitch to chat and laugh, you have plenty of time after the game to do so out of the eye of the people who have paid to see their team dissapear into League1.
  • I question his ability. Every time he headed the ball it went straight up in the air. Mind you he's no worse than the other goons that currently line up in that famous shirt of ours.

  • Probably knows more of our players better than your own I guess.

Not the best header of a ball which might explain the above point.
  • Ward came through the youth system at Watford and first made his name as their 1st team centre half.

Earlier this season he played around 10 games for Watford, on loan from Wolves.

He's bound to have a lot of feeling for Watford, and would know virtually all the players.
Providing he gave 100% for the Charlton shirt during the game, you can't really blame him for talking to his old mates.

Whether he should have stayed grimly silent, and run to the tunnel with head bowed, in front of a fast emptying ground - I don't know if most supporters truly expected that.
  • TBH I thought Ward had a poor game, there was a moment when the ball came to him to header clear and it took him 3 attempts to actually knock it forward, it was cringeworthy, thought Kandol, Bailey were good and to be fair Youga and Burton weren't to bad, Burton may have had a poor start but thought he fought for the ball and held up play okay, Hudson was poor, Sam was quiet, Spring was poor, the only person I would give above a 7 was Kandol, who not only scored two, but what impressed me most was when he lost the ball, he chased back to get it, and mostly he did get it back, as did Bailey, who's commitment is second to none, apart from that it was a thouroughly poor display only made better by a night out in Guildford :)
  • Phew, SE7 ..... that was a breathless sentence.

Glad to hear you had a good night out in Guildford - makes Saturdays worthwhile.
