in five or six weeks time I'd like to see the following :
1) an admission (again possibly but heyho) from the Board that they have made mistakes and accept responsibility for the position we find ourselves in - relegated.
2) an announcement that they would like to thank Phil Parkinson for his efforts but things havn't worked out as hoped so thanks but cheerio.
3) a reduction of between £25 and £50 on Adult season ticket prices for League 1. To encourage renewals, especially from families, an adult season ticket holder can bring an under 11 child for FREE, with up to two further Under 11's for £59 each. In the current climate, credit crunch time, it's families who are least likely to renew. We need to encourage them to renew by making it cheaper. We also need to ensure that we don't start losing another generation of fans and we need to make sure that the ground is as full as is possible. Empty stands will inspire no-one. A father bringing 2 children would be saving at least £ 164 on this years prices.
4) The Club need to convince the fans that we intend to get out of League 1 as quickly as possible. They need to say which players are not going to have their contracts renewed and pledge that as much of the funds as possible raised from season ticket sales will go to the new manager to enable him to build a squad capable of not only getting out of League 1 but one which, with a couple of further additions, can mount a serious campaign back in the Championship. They need to reiterate that we have a number of young players that will be the nucleus of a young and vibrant team for a few years to come. Players that will develope, grow and improve whilst pushing the Club onwards and upwards. If some sales are going to be necessary then say so up front but also say that x% of funds raised will be given to the new manager.
5) to achieve the above the Board need to appoint a new manager. One who can not only get us out of League 1 but one that can at the very least consolidate us back in the Championship but one whom we feel can push us up to near the play-offs. This man needs to be in place within two weeks of the season ending so that he is given the maximum time available to start overhauling the Club from bottom to top and assembling a team capable of the above.
Maybe a bit pretentious of me to state some of the above but so what. As for the new manager. A lot of fans are under a misapprehension as to whom we could attract. Even in League 1 we are a very attractive proposition. Some of the managers I heard were interested after Pardew's departure would raise a lot of eyebrow's, they certainly did mine. However, a number of those managers we wouldn't want and a number wouldn't be right for a number of reasons.
I'd like to see Nigel Adkins from Scunthorpe Utd or Sean O'Driscoll from Donny Rovers. Adkins is on the brink of getting Scunny out of League 1 for the second time in three seasons and was unlucky not to keep them in the Championship on a budget of zilch. O'Driscoll has taken Donny out of League 1 into the Championship and has retained their status there this season. Both have produced sides that play football. To those that say you can't get out of League 1 playing football both of these managers have proved this wrong. And if you think neither would leave a Championship side to drop back into League 1 all I'd say is you'd be surprised.

We have to look at the formula in which leceistar took with nigel peirson we neeed someone to come in and shake it up a bit. I would like to see nicky bailey made captian.
In terms of pricing there needs to be a big review as ive said in previous posts i believe we must change the seating arrangements around and that means moving home fans into jimmy seed stand. I believe a reduction of 40% on season tickets should be made with children under 12 getting a free ticket with every adult tick purchased, This way we will get numbers and as you said large addick a new generation.
Its tough times but we must stick together and get the right man leading the way and playing the right brand of football.
problem is that facilities there are basic and where do you put the away fans ? I can't see another area that the Police or Club would be happy with.
Would the fans be patient enough? I wouldn't expect either of them to come here and overnight have us playing like Doncaster the other night. We could end up with 8-10 first team players here that actually want to stay. With a new squad it could take a while before it all comes together.
Still, we could have the same problems with Parkinson, except that he's already started building his own squad and knows a lot more about the players.
I was. Which of the above is unrealistic to expect ?
My hunch is that you'll see none of those 5 things anytime soon, although to be fair the board have been pretty down to earth about c*ck ups in the past so maybe number 1 might come about (as you say, again!)
well I believe of those I stated number 3 is imperative to our future.
No wholesale selling of players - by all means let the high earners and out-of-contractos go (weaver, Ambrose, Furtune, ZZ, Toddy) but keep he likes of Biley, racon, etc. We got promoted in 99/00 to tyhe premiership because we kept the squad together and mmade the mistake this time of sekling the players. Leicester done it this way and so must we.
Must act quickly - fans (and players) will want & need to know what the thinking is and its no good going into August still with lots of questions to be answered. Get rid of Parky and appoint someone by end of May.
If we start selling ouir best players I certainly won renew my ST. We need to srenghtern the midfield and buy a couple of forwards who can score 30 goals between them next season. I'll say it now - We wont get out of Div 1 (apart from downwards) with Burton & Gray upfront.
I really can't believe you won't renew. If you are willing to go to Reading and Wolves this week when we are down and out you will renew. You come out with some tosh sometimes and fans are right and give you grief over it BUT you are a committed fan and support the team through thick, and more recently, thin and are certainly not a boo boy. A moaning miserable sod maybe but that is only because you care. Long may that continue.
You are right in saying we won't get out of League 1 with Gray, Burton, Dickson, Kandol up front. I suspect Gray, being a high earner and good enough for the Championship, will be off for a fee representing another hugh loss. Therin lies the recent problems. Hugh losses through buying the wrong players.
LMAO!
I suppose as brothers, you CAN say that .... !
;o)
I'll find out Tuesday !!
Oh.......
Agree on Parky - personally I'd want Paul Ince at the club the day after the last game of the season.
my name sake Adkins is at his level I believe - as a former physiotherapist come good would this club be too big for him? , not wanting to sound arrogant.
Well, he was the man who once turned Youga into a good player.
Blimey, if he could do that, imagine what could he do with the rest of them .... ?
;o)
The points you raise about Charlton's potential attraction to both players and managers is an excellent one. A positive go ahead club even in league 1 can have more attraction than a run of the mill Championship one, for example would a player rather play for Barnsley and hover around the drop zone for season after season or would he rather be part of Leicester's all conquering League 1 side? I would bet Leicester will have a sniff or the Premier League before Barnsley do. Take Simon Grayson, happy to leave a solid and respectably decent Championship outfit in Blackpool for the promise and challenge that is the Leeds job, because with due respect to Blackpool- Leeds have more chance of getting to the top quicker. If our board follow your line then we can be next season's go ahead club that will appear attractive all round. Failure to say and do these things could see us fall yet further.
"The Club need to convince the fans that we intend to get out of League 1 as quickly as possible."
Can you really ask for both, playing young players is a gamble and many wont be good enough, so may mean we don't get out of league 1. Which is more important, playing youngsters or bouncing straight back?
Good point, it's exactly what Pardew tried to do. He hoped we'd be playing good football and challenge for promotion while his younger signings all developed into Premier League players.
We have to find the right balance, if a player has shown enough in the reserves and deserves a chance, give him a run in the team. Obviously, if Shelvey's still here, we'll be using him. I expect we'll see Solly have a good run in the team next season. We can't though just throw them all in and expect it to all work out, I doubt Basey or Wagstaff are going to be good enough to be regulars next season, even in League One.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH
Why the hell would a manager of a team playing in promotion form in the championship, leave, to join the club thats not even attempted to fight for its survival in the exact same league?
Behave.
he would. Even in League 1 we will average bigger gates than Donny in the Championship and we have huge potential that if he got it right could in a couple of years (ok three/four) take us back to the PL. We'd be a challenge but one that if he got it right would be extremely beneficial to him and his career.
Bigger club, bigger potential, good challenge, better on his CV if he did well, his current club won't go much further than mid-table in the championship.
Exactly the reasons why Grayson left Blackpool to go to Leeds in a lower division.
As are points 2 and 5 in my opinion.
Exactly the reasons why Grayson left Blackpool to go to Leeds in a lower division.
........
Alternatively he'll stay at Doncaster for another year and then look for a job with a better placed Championship side. The problem with Charlton is that we are in stock-market terms a "falling knife" - something best left alone.
Bear in mind also that Grayson went to Leeds a season after they'd been relegated at which point things had stabilised, any ambitious manager would look at Charlton and wonder how much further have they got to fall and are all the problems out - i.e. what more could go wrong.
sniper from the east upper.. music from Platoon starts.... ;-)
Donny could easily make playoffs next season, I've seen more of them than I have Charlton this season, best team I've seen by far consistantly, if they only had a striker who could finish they'd be awesome!!
