I feel for Parky, he inherited a sinking ship and did his best but couldn't keep it afloat, but then I wonder who could have turned things around given the lack of finances? I don't recall Jose Mourinho putting his name in the frame ad=fter Parky was sacked. I presume the board did look around and possibly had a few calls about the job, but probably chose Parky because he was a) cheap and b) the other applicants didn't offer anything that he already possessed.
The question is - has he "lost" the changing room and the ability to inspire the team, if the answer is yes then we'll need a new manager come May. If not then it's worth reviewing things and making a decision based on whether he can build and motivate a successful promotion chasing side next season. Currently I'm of the opinion that a fresh set of coaching/managerial faces are needed.
I'm sadly of the same opinion. Additionally, I just can't shake off the images of how badly we handled set pieces and our our lack of second ball tactics, Parky was responsible for this coaching and try as I might, and I have, I can't summon up any enthusiasm for him to continue.
A major factor in our demise this season in my opinion is that the majority of the team have nothing to play for.
I understand that a number of players are out of contract at the end of the season. The reality is that all of these players will be gone. This then leaves the loanees. These are not Charlton players, they don't have the club at heart and are playing for us for their own personnal reasons. Therefore if the club gets relegated so what! it doesn't affect any of these players they will all move on. This shows in the lackluster performances from the majority of the team. Apart from a few players such as Baily, Hudson their is little or no desire, and the remaining Charlton players who are in contract are simply not good enough.
Having started this thread even I am resigned that we will be starting next season with Parky at the helm. I know as fans we all expect that Charlton should certainly be in the promotion shake up next season but I wonder what the boards expectations are. Would a season of rebuilding, consolidation and respectable mid table finish be enough to get Parkinson a contract extension or would that scenario signal his end ? Imho I think that realistically we should now forget the clamour (including mine) for his head and fully get behind him but I want come november 2009 for this board to be buzzing with exitement not having to be having this argument again. Common Parky !

As long as they give it their best shot on matchday.
