At the risk of being too positive

edited March 2009 in General Charlton
Can we actually now mount an escape. Logic says no. Blind passion says just maybe.

We need a lot to go our way in terms of results , unlike Saturday BUT who are 3
worse teams than us?

Comments

  • norwich, southampton & Blackpool (maybe Palarse if they went into administration...oh, you can dream)
  • I'm going to throw all my doubt out the window, I can't be arsed being negative anymore, what the hell.. WE ARE STAYING UP!
  • I sound like a broken record but in order to avoid relegation, unless this is a freak season, we need to get to at least 50 points. If we take four points from every six now until the end of the season we will be on 52 points. No team has been relegated on 52 points or more in the last twelve seasons (and before that I just didn't look back further) other than Leicester last season. It's a tall order but we can do it and who knows who will be dragged into it. We went 18 games without a win. A team could just nose dive.

As for who is worse than us, well none yet but who is playing worse than us at the moment, well Norwich, Plymouth (despite their win), Palace even.

The next two games are crucial for us. Two wins and we are right back in it with momentum!!
  • Cut and paste that into a word document bing.. you'll need it again before the season's out.
  • Here comes my broken record, lol ..... no point trying to guess how many points we may need, it's totally irrelevant at this stage. Nobody knows.

What is vital, is that we focus on 3 points v Donny. One game at a time.

Single focus. No other game matters.

Tat'd be a 78 then ;-) But that is true and exactly what Parky has to do.
There seems a lot more character and steel about this team compared to Pardoo.
That is the spec of light.
  • You are absolutely right of course Oggy, it's the statto in me (oh err missus!!) that leads me to searching for the record books.

I've no doubt that Parky is focussing them on one game at a time.

Next couple of games whilst they won't make or break survival could have a real shot in the arm effect were we to win them.

I am going tomorrow and being an Addick fan I travel in hope rather than expectation!!!

And as much as we need points, it's that real shot in the arm effect that is vital !
  • We are 11th in the form table I saw on Sky last night. Unfortunately in the bottom half there are the likes of Wolves/Birmingham etc and not Doncaster/Soton etc

I noticed that too. Says a lot about the job Parky has done

Norich I agree and Blackpool but the Saints have picked up a bit
I think there is a suprise late failure..... Eh Mr Warnock
  • Last season Palace clawed their way from the relegation places to a play off position.
    Credit where it is due.

How about this season, Palace claw their way from a play off position to a relegation position ?
We can only dream, I suppose lol

So, we can draw two conclusions:
    1) If you're in the bottom 2 on the 3 March, you get relegated;
    or 2) No-one from 17th down is safe;
or 3) there's no point in being top on 3 March.
  • See, this time last year, we were in our rightful place .... 5th

    ;o)
  • Interesting that Leicester City were on 40 points already - and still got relegated

  • Chizz ....we can't just take 1 season's stats and call them typical.

What about the season before ....can you rustle up a table?

And Hull were only 9th - and got promoted!

Lots of twists and turns to go yet.

  • I maintain we will stay up, and forecast that Blackpool, Southampton and Norwich will go down
  • Also in last year,s table, Scunthorpe were only 2 points behind safety, yet finished rock bottom a long way behind Colchester.

Sheffield Wednesday in 3rd bottom scrambled theite way to safety by 2 or 3 points.

lol don't panic , we're still 5th i can hear it now after another woeful performance ;-)
  • Looking at your 06-07 table, Chizz ..... Leeds were rock bottom after 36 games with 31 points, but in reality only missed safety by a point, Kish inspired, before they pulled their Administration stunt.

Also, look at Hull back then ..... one result less and they wouldn't have had the chance to play in the Prem, and win at Spuds and the Arse. It's a thin line.

This season, it's all still very do-able ..... providing Charlton keep the momentum building.
  • The next two games are crucial for us. Two wins and we are right back in it with momentum!!

    ........

Every game is crucial, while those above us have some room to screw up, we have no latitude for error. From here-on we need to show promotion type form and be incredibly consistent, something to be fair that we've been all year - just that we've consistently underperformed.
