Policing after the game yesterday

Shocking, walked out of the game in 2009 and in 1973. 616 Addicks there yesterday, kept in a pen for 20 mins, told if you where on the train to get on one of two buses that would take us back to the station. There was about 100 of us both buses,as we got to the station we were met by about 50 Heddlu De Cymru along with dogs (not sheep). Told to get on the train only carriages A & B that was sitting in the station and wait for 30mins before it pulled out. Not allowed off to get a drink and if we tried we would be spenting the night in the cells, couldn't move up the train to get a drink either. The train also had British Transpot Police on it, to escort us back to Paddington. There were about 3 or 4 stops between Swansea & Cardiff, at each station there were Police not allowing you off the train.
Once we went pass Cardiff, we were allowed to walk up the train, however the train was to be a dry train.

Was there any trouble before the game?

  • they live in the dark ages there
  • Absolute joke from the police yesterday.

We went up on the 7.45 from Paddington, not a cooper on the train nor any when we got to Swansea at 11.30.

After the game no option other than to get on these buses, and back at the station just being simply pushed onto the train.

I love doing my away trips, mainly as I only get to do 6 or 7 a season now as opposed to all of them a few years back. When I have an away day now I want a good drink and a good laugh. Yesterday we were booked on the 7.30 out of Swansea but were simply not allowed to get this train and have a few beers after the game.

Ones thing for sure it will be along time before I go back there.

BTP and the local old bill in Swansea were a joke yesterday. To be frog marched onto to a bus after the game and all shoved onto a dry train back to london was a joke. In all the years i have been going away from home, this has only happened once before (Birmingham may 98) though that was for our own welfare.

No communication, no reasons, Old bill coming out with different reasons why we were being shoved on a train. Interesting comment from one of the btp officers on the way back, who said he started his shift at midday, and was told to get to Swansea now. I never saw any bother, but did hear that when a train from london arrived into Swansea at 1230, the Charlton fans on it were taken to the nearest pub, and escorted by bus to the ground.

Bring back Beardy. This new local football liasion officer does not know the people who often go to away games to know that 99% cause no problems on the trains at all.

    We are Charlton, not S***wall!!

Indeed...... it may well be shirty!!!!
  • I was talking to the BTP who was stopping us walking up the train and told me the same about being at Kings X and being told to get to Swansea, we got to Swansea just after 1.00pm and was allowed to walk down the town, on the way down I asked a copper where we could get a drink and told me, we could go to pub by the station and we could get a bus to the ground, I said no thanks and they let us carry on walking, ended up in the Monkey bar, no problems and had a few beers there and then got a cab to the ground.
So if there was trouble before the game why did let 5 of us walk down the town?
  • It has to be said...(and don't get me wrong I'm not defending The Old Bill)....but they do work 'most' of the time on information received ...plus experience with ongoing issues re Swansea fans.....It's my take they got a whisper that something was gonna 'kick off' and they acted upon it accordingly.

Fair enough, but in that case then, they should have told the Charlton fans on both buses what was going on. Just to stand there on the platform and just to say get on that train, is poor communciation. No one wonder people get the hump with them.
  • I was with Jonjo's mum and sister and we left 5 mins before the end. They wasn't going to let us out the ground and we had to be checked against the cctv to see if we had been causing trouble. Luckily enough i had kept the girls in check during the day so we were allowed to leave. Is there not a law against keeping against there will
  • Football fans are the scum of the earth and should be treated accordingly. FACT.
  • just got back after staying on friday and saturday nights.
there was trouble around the station at midday.
after the game got on one of those buses back to station, and we were only locked in the station for 5-10 mins before they let us out.
we went to the first pub we came to and there were quite a few charlton in there who were due on the 7:30 train.

When the 7.45 from Paddington arrived at 11.30 some CAFC fans were attacked by the local youth. I was told this by my mate who was there. I don't think it was bad because the police stopped it. Consequently, any CAFC arriving were led into the hotel pub next to the station for their own protection. I arrived at 12.30 and left at 2.20 courtesy of police escorted buses to the ground, which at one point travelled through a gated off area.

After, we were taken back by the same route and dumped on the train.

I have to say that pre match they had a group of 20 that came along looking for it on a few occasions, but they were moved on. I also reckon they had a number of spotters. There would definitely have been trouble if the police hadn't intervened.

The police did seem heavy handed with some CAFC who appeared to be refusing to get on the train.

Been there done it won't be going back.
  • Imagine what it's like when they play Cardiff!

And people wonder why the away support is low.

Why should decent law abiding people be subjected to that sort of treatment?

I was thinking of going away if we win our next two home games. I don't think I will after reading this.
  • You would think with the trouble on ours streets we have in teh inner citys more effect would be made to control that rather than bully boy tactics on footy fans

Footy fans all over are a easy target

Time for the police to target realcrime

Like the one that told me a certain part of Woolwich is almost a no go area
  • Can I say 2 things:-

    1) I really didnt like being kept in the fenced in area after the game

    2) All the Swansea people we met were very friendly and wished Charlton all the best for survival this season
  • I was on the 7.45 train and was due to meet my Welsh mate outside the station. As soon as the Charlton lot got off of the train there were probably about 20 Swansea herberts (15-17) who goaded the Charlton lot. It spilled down into a side street where a few road signs/cones etc were getting thrown about. I did hear they wanted to take it to a council estate but Charlton intelligently declined the kind offer.

There was also a bit of hoo haa in the ground at half time when somebody had the audacity to smoke in the toilets and get thrown out (eventually). All a bit of nonsense really.

Nothing in the stands really - was allowed to stand all game with not so much of a squeak from the stewards. Not sure what would have gone down if Swansea had scored last minute as my Swansea supporting friend would have gone mad I think.
  • I had no problem being 'caged in' for 15 mins after the game whilst the majority of the locals dispersed. The area we were in was peaceful and gave an opportunity for 'lifer' spotting.

Had to laugh at the busses being laid on for the train travellers. Those nuaghty boys on board both busses were 'bouncy bouncing' and the buses suspensions were groaning under the wait. I've never seen two busses doing synchronised bouncing before. Did it carry on all the way to the station?

BTW WSS - was that you with Pork Pie and the Swansea fan?
  • It was indeed mate.

it drove along side a police horse for a bit of the way back to the station and the hundred or so of us were singing goodbye horse at it for a good minute or two, absolute quality scared the sht out of it.

i thought the police were pretty good. arrived at about 1, given the option of going to the pub opposite the station and getting a free bus to the ground, but not if i didn't want to. so said that you very much, had a few pints in there and got on the buses at about 2.30 which were escorted past all the traffic straight to the ground in time for another pint before kickoff. straight out afterwards onto the bus back to the station (again didn't have to could have walked). and i'm pretty sure if you ask to leave the caged area after the game they have to let you as they can't keep you there, just do it "for your own safety". seem to remember being locked in at upton park a few years back but asking to leave and them telling us they couldn't stop us if we wanted to.

Was 8 lads yest and about 10 beer heads from one of the social clubs who were on the same train. Swansea fronted them and were told they wernt interested as many of the group had recently done time for the Croydon incident, cctv heaven by the station. Bit of handbags and the inevitable posts on the net about how 'Swansea done Charlton'.

It's called false imprisonment Uncle, (and possibly breach of your human rights). Where football fans are concerned though, most of what we used to take for granted as rights have gone. It seems they can do pretty much anything in the name of preventing an incident at a football match.
