[cite]Posted By: InspectorSands[/cite]If KN can wrest the copyright off Tindle Newspapers, I'd love to buy a compilation of his Charlton writing, through good times and bad.
Tindle (Westminster/Trinity) are unlikely to own the copyright of Kevin's writing as he has never been an employee to my knowledge. I believe freelances retain the copyright to their own work unless they specifically assign it to the publisher - although the groups probably own the headlines!

Copyright laws are a grey area in these cases, ultimately it depends what it says in his contract. Generally if a publisher makes at least 5% changes to what is written/submitted then they can claim ownership of that version regardless of who submits the story and the conditions and also if they commission a writer to produce something specifically for them then they can claim ownership of that version. This stops the author writing one story and selling it to multiple publishers, although in the case of syndicated columns etc, that doesn't apply.
Doubt if there is a contract. I defer to your greater knowledge on copyright, which is helpful as I have some plans of my own, although I'd be surprised if anyone ever had the front to make 5 per cent of changes to Kevin's copy!
I also spent many a happy hour going up and down the motorway with Kev to away games. Even sat in the press box a few times with him as his assistant :-) He is a absolute top bloke and great reporter. As Algarve said he is an argumentative old sod but great fun with it.
As for the Barnsley story, it is an absolute classic but up to Kev to tell the story as i couldn't do it justice.
One thing I will say about the man is that he is a dreadful driver. But I am sure he will argue that.
[cite]Posted By: InspectorSands[/cite]Oh gawd - it's good for KN if he's got a new gig, but Greenwich Time is council propaganda drivel of the first order.
Couldn't KN write for your blog, Inspector ..... ?
Kev Nolan is THE Charlton reporter. Who wants the "groin-strane" news. Good Luck Kev in your new role (whever that may be). Now, what was your 1st Charlton game........
A true shame to the man himself as well as the fans who i am sure like me would go straight to his match reports once recieving the local paper. Spoke as he found in which made him even more popular with fans, the club could do a lot worse than employ him as a columist within the programme, i am sure he would be very popular, however with a talent like his he will not be out of work to long
Of course, living 2 minutes walk from The Valley, we don't actually get The Mercury delivered to us, but I managed to purloin a copy from an estate agents on Plumstead Road the other day and noticed that there was no Kev - having not been near a PC for a couple of days due to various stuff, I missed the initial post by Airman Brown. However, belatedly, I would like to add my sentiments that it is an absolute crying shame that such a talent as Kevin be jettisoned and if it means our council tax going up to incorporate him within Greenwich Time then we'll gladly cough up! I've lots of happy memories of working with Kevin in various capacities and as like many others can tell a tale or two. Obviously technology and the economic climate are currently dictating so much, but the eloquent prose, rapier like wit and whole hearted bias of Kevin Nolan is something should be continued for as long as possible. Now, the sponsors' food at Exeter - no, as with previous posts, I'll leave it to Kev!
how about a evening with Kevin Nolan. Many people get paid for after dinner speaking I would quite happily part with a few quid to listen to his many stories that people have nearly told us about. We could then enter into a question and answer session with him.
Nice fella...great reporter..top Addick...poor show by whoever has decided to sideline him...maybe he can work freelance...or was he already doing that?

Great Idea ! I'll phone him over the next couple of days to see if he'll be up for it. I suppose the Valley would be too dear to hire, so if anyone genuinely interested in this ; Any ideas where and how many people ? I don't mind organizing this if needed.
Kevin is a unique character and a big part of the Charlton lore, from his match reports to his Valley tours.
I have had the fortune of getting to know Kevin and Hazel over many years during overseas visits. Getting to catch up with them, and Colin Cameron and Alan Honey, in the press room, was a welcomed ritual at home matches.
One of the best things about Kevin's writing, a perfect for a weekly newspaper, was that the readers were informed and entertained several days after they already knew the result and the pertinent facts.
Before the Charlton email list and in the Internet, I always appreciated the Mercury clippings of Nolan's Reports that Airman Brown used to tuck into my overseas subscription to Voice of The Valley.
I thought enough about Kevin's writing that I got him an assignment for my American newspaper to cover a world boxing championship match in London featuring Vinny Pazienza, our local pugilist. Kevin, as expected, did a bang up job on the boxing.
I am surprised that a weekly newspaper has let 'freelance regulars' go, since they only get paid for what actually appears in the paper. The trend is for more of them, and less full-time employees.
Kevin is someone that is always going to have a say, and I'll put my money on him finding a new vehicle for his unique commentary.

I'm sure there's a fanzine he could contribute too?

He was booked (and presumably paid) for an hours tour- must have given us at least 2.
Top bloke- Charlton oozed from him like only a few people i've ever met- and i'd never had him down as that age.
Like Inspector above- i'd buy that book!

He has read the thread and is appreciative of the kind remarks made about him here.
I owe a debt of gratitude to this man for his excellent (and passionate) writing.
This is a great shame and I hope he can continue his work in some other way.

But look at the cars he drove . . .

'tho AFKA and the "In Crowd" might not agree..............
;-)
Not sure how keen Kev would be to appear in a con club...
