We could select Evra, Ashley Cole or Wayne Bridge but they'd still look like pub players if we defend from the edge of the box and fall back deeper. The defence needs to follow the midfield up the pitch so that they can compete for the second ball if we loose possession.
Youga (and Moo2) are being slagged off for loosing possession and "being caught out of position" but they should be covered by a centre back moving across. This doesn't happen because our centre backs won't venture over the half way line.
The fact that neither Pardew nor Parky have been able to address our defensive frailties despite playing conservative and defensive 4-5-1 line-ups most of the time is an indictment of their lack of coaching abilities.
Tomorrow I don't really mind. We should be playing on the front foot tomorrow against a team who have scored very few lately, so less chance for youga's frailties in defence to be exploited.
Usually I favour Basey though for his distribution and solidity.

haha dan's tryig to bring it back to football!!! outrageous.
theres not much choice in that poll is there?
Youga has the athleticism
Basey the distribution
Youga strength
Basey football brain
Both have weaknesses
Tough call
I'd rather have someone who can defend a bit than someone who's as quick as you like but doesn't know how to tackle or stand-up for that matter!
I like Basey's attitude and he has size and a sweet left foot in his favour but he is woefully slow for a full back.
I think centre back could ultimately be his best position. His lack of pace would not be so exposed there.
hes Charlton through and through
and far superior defender to Youga, may be slower but atleast he can tackle and pass,
youga is quick but whats the point in being quicker if you can't tackle/pass/cross/dribble
Yeh, Youga deserves replacing after his performance against Palace.
Not.

Basey lacks the pace for the position. We've only got one viable option.
