Thought of the Day

edited February 2009 in General Charlton
..."In spite of all this, still we were not given a good Press. Some football writers seemed dazzled by the Arsenal's earlier success, and our remarkable performance was rather dismissed as a lucky phase. Charlton Athletic were still regarded as the ragamuffin team! You need luck in football but our performance had been mainly brought about by ability and team-spirit.

Our success was not any flash-in-the-pan, even though many did not like our style, which they classed as negative football."......

Curbs could have written that.

In fact it comes from The Jimmy Seed Story and he is referring to season 1936/37 when we finished runners up in the first division. (The top tier back then for any youngsters reading).

Plus ca change as they say.....
