Lowest Ever Championship/1st Div/2nd Div Points Tally?

Just looking at the table and realising just how really screwed we are, I was wondering if anyone knew what the lowest ever points tally was for a team in the Championship or old 1st and 2nd divisions were because it doesn't look like we'll be winning any games for the rest of the season.

Not sure if it's the all-time low, but Cambridge went down from the old div two in 1983-4 with just 24 points. But that was in a smaller 22 team league with 42 games, not 46...

We scored five against them at the Valley that year...
  • was that 5-2, seem to remember Steve Downman scoring a header for some weird fcuking reason???????????????????, I was only 7!
  • and still only 2 poins for a win perhaps ????????
  • That was the worse team in League history though they went 31 games without a win.

Quick, how many games have we got left, can we beat that? Another proud page to our club's history!

Well there's your problem right there. I stopped looking at the table ages ago and won't even have a sly glance until we've racked up at least 3 wins....so will have to wait 'till around Christmas time then I reckon.
  • If memory serves correct 3 points for a win started in season 1981/82...
  • Have there been no teams that have entered administration and had a points deduction leading to -ve points in the Championship or the old Div 2?

  • gallows humour, this thread reeks of it
  • .... and don't forget our traditional inability to win (hardly) any of the last 10 games of the season, so there's every chance the record is in our sights.
  • 2004/05 - Rotherham United finished bottom with just 5 wins and 29 points losing 27 games out of 46. 2003/04 - MK Dons finished bottom again with 29 points, winning 8 games but losing 33 out of 46. 2001/02 - Stockport County finished bottom winning 6 games, losing 32 and gaining just 26 points. They're by fast the worst in the second tier in the last 10 years or so....
  • i don't think we'll beat rotheram's record.

i was thinking about how our ongoing run of league games without a win compares to the records held by other clubs.

I know derby hold the record for most without a win at an impressive 37. but have most clubs gone 20 odd games without a win before, or are we really 'special'?

  • Is it too late to win the record?
