Sunderland fan here (still trying to get over that Mendoca hat-trick!!).
Looking at the league table in my Sunderland football echo, and did not actually realise quite how far adrift you lot are at the moment. I really hope you get out of this. I normally favour the Northern teams (and do hope Donny get out of it as they are a great little club), but Charlton are a what I would call 'a proper football club'. I have been to the Valley 4 times supporting Sunderland and was also at the famous Wembley game. I have never encountered anything but a warm welcome and friendliness, from your fans and having been through the mire once before when you left the valley, and the way you hung in and came back from that, you deserve far better than what you are currently getting.
How is young Waghorn getting on? I saw him score in a live TV game recently and then bumped into him at a Sunderland reserve game just before christmas. We have high hopes for the lad and I hope he can nick a few goals to help your cause.
Anyway, best of luck and remember it's darkest just before the dawn.

Thanks for the comments although most of us have already conceeded that we will be in league one next season. On our current form and our point talley so far, only a miracle will get us out of it and if you have seen us play recently, paired with the current management team, you would realise that a miracle probably wouldn't be enough!
Waghorn looks like a real prospect, he is a bit raw at the moment but shows all the potential and attributes to be your next Kevin Phillips and I am certainly not the first to say that!
Good luck for the rest of the season, I have adopted Sunderland as a bit of a second team myself! Have some great memories.

Cheers mate. We are not exactly safe ourselves from the dreaded drop, and with our recent history you always think the music will stop before we get a seat.
I assume the coffers are empty or is there any chance of you bringing a few faces in to try and freshen it up for the rest of the season? Sometimes that's all it takes and a few wins and it can all look very different. Looking at the table you are probably going to have to pick up the best part of 30 points from 18 games and that does look a very tall order, but you just never know.
Got to say I am surprised by a few of the sides down there, Derby and Watford in particular. I know about Southampton's problems and to be honest they are not my favourite club and won't shed any tears if they go down. It's a tough one really as I would not want Doncaster or Blackpool to go either and Derby and Forest have had enough strife themselves recently.
One thing I have learned though having suffered 7 relegations as a Sunderland fan (maybe adding to that impressive tally this year), is that it always feels like the end but it never is. There is still football the next season and often it is better than the season before. One of the best seasons we ever had from a supporters point of view was the season we spent in the old division three. Still hope you don't have to go through it though.
When you have taken 3 points (3 draws!) from the last 18 league games you realise that getting 30 from the next 18 just wont happen!
I think Sunderland will be alright, you have a good squad and infrastructure and certainly are not in the worst 3 teams in that league, but as you said, its never a certainty.
How's Andy Reid getting on?
It's a bit of a nightmare and there is little sign of any end to it. Still we support them through thin as well as thick.
Hope you stay up.
Any chance of Andy Reid on loan?
He tends to be used by us as an impact player coming on when the other side are tired after 60 mins or so. My 16 year old daughter think he's 'mint' and 'cuddly'.
nice words...
good luck for the rest of the season...
Normally not a great fan of you north east mobs but Sunderland top lads after our 4-4 game and the subsequent beers with you lot after the game.
Plus the fact you hate Newcastle which is good for me.
Thanks for the kind words mate think we are buggered but we can do it just need a run of wins but easier said than done. Losing to a poor Sheff Weds team 4-1 is a shocker.
