A god awful stadium populated by about 15-16000 fans.
From 3-0 down after half an hour(Andy Hunt scored) to Barness scoring his first goal from outside the box follwed by a brace from Colin Walsh leading to a last minute shot by Pardew which canonned off O'Brien.
Yeah I know this fixture is always brought up by me or someone else but there is always something special about this fixture in a very special season and how things have changed since
That above fixture set the scene for a very impressive run clocking off very decent performances and bagging in some superb goals. Walshy again v Bristol City for example. Away wins at Swindon, Blackburn, Pompey and Sunderland plus that amazing home game v Leicester where the opposition took about 10000 fans.
Our thin squad (in numbers terms) took us so near yet so far and we ran out of steam for the Tranmere and Bristol matches. At least they tried despite the limited funds and the off the field issues of getting back to The Valley
No comparison between all that and the drivel of the present day.
*sigh*

As I recall, on arrival at the airport we were also required to have a police escort to use the Gents!!
was that not the 3-1 win up there a couple of years before?
was at both , remember at 3-1 down us jokingly singing 1-3 back to them . Looked like we were gonna concede about ten when the third went in .
