I've been meaning to type this for a while but have not really had the nerve but after yesterday I thought f**k it...it can't make anything any worse.
I, like many of you, love this club. I've supported them my whole life and have never known any different. One of the things that I loved (Yup, past tense) about it was the fact that we all pulled together and even though 9 times out of 10 we were the under dog, 'little old' Charlton won through, or if not gave a bloody good showing. The fans, whether we won of lost, therefore appreciated the effort and we all looked forward t the next game. I believe, rightly or wrongly, this was because all the players, backroom staff, and anyone associated with the club was a fan first and foremost and so did there best for the club. The money always came second.
In the last 18 months this HAS changed. We no longer have people at the club that genuinely care for it. This goes for some of the players and it would seem some of the people working for the club. I received an email not so long ago, from an employee at our club in error. It should never have been for my eyes. At the time I chose to ignore it and although disappointing I accept we all make mistakes. We're human after all. However, after seeing what is happening to our club since then it's occurred to me that the amount of people that genuinely care for Charlton, appreciate our history and actually know what it is to be part of us and how unique we are, is dying out. Working for Charlton is not simply a pay cheque and if that is how ANY of the employees at the club feel, players, back room staff, anyone who receives the clubs money, then please leave now and allow people that dearly love this club a chance to turn things around. It's not about the cash, it's about being part of something and doing things to the best of your ability and that are 100% for the good of the club and not for personal gain. The club deserve better and all associated with it deserve better. For all the people that have sacrificed so much for Charlton over the years, the current plight and peoples attitude at the club is a slap in the face.
I know that in the big money world of football that we now live in, we are a business and as a result some of this 'passion' will be lost. What I can't believe though is that it can be to the detriment of everything else that has gone before it.
