"I'll be trying to change this team round so I can get some stronger mentalities in."

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
Does he mean more loan signings? Clearly a player coming on loan for a month hasn't got the mentality to help a team bottom of the league. They're either here to get fit and/or play a few games, at the most they'll extend the loan a month or two.

Or does he mean he'll put players like Holland back in the team?

Good news is that Racon was in the warm up today, and should be back in full time training on Wednesday.

  • or to put it another way, "i've been reading my book of managerial cliches and this is a new bit I haven't read before."
  • To be honest, Scoham mate, I read that sentence and thought someone has been reading the 'Oxford Book of Pardewisms' again....

It could pretty much mean anything - just juggling what he's got or bringing in more loans etc...

Clearly we can assume Randolph, Spring, Soares and Murty don't have very strong mentalities, according to our Phil, or they'd have made a noticeable difference as they've only just arrived/come into the team.

He is starting to repeat himself, just like his predecessor. That is bad news for him if results continue along the same vein.

If you want to get it from the library Pilchard, I've put the title in the post above... ;-)

Don't get too excited as his wonderful new signing Spring will keep him out of the side.
  • What about bringing in Paul Kenna and hypnotise them all into die-hard Addicks fans a la Frank Butcher (without losing their soccer skills and aptitude I hasten to add!) and let them loose on the pitch and see them storm up the table(!)

Probably, but we know he rates Racon.

And yeah it is rather Pardew like. What's he going to say next, we need a bit of nous?

I've just done a head count and in the four games since Pardky was made permanent manager, he has started 20 players and brought on another four from the bench.

That's right , two dozen players have worn the shirt on the pitch in the last four matches - and he's now talking about changing the team around cos they haven't got the right mentality (when it's actually his job to instil that mentality). I'm assuming that means more loanees.

Am I alone in thinking there is such a feeling of deja vu about this and the bloke doesn't know what he's doing any more (if he ever did...) ?

I've had a bottle of red and a bottle of white wine and now I'm feeling bluer than ever. Anger has gone. Resignation has set in. Does any of it matter? We're going down whatever Pardky does.

He told us we had 20 cup finals and we've barely bothered to turn up to the first two of them. He clearly told us one big fat lie when he claimed last week that the players cared more than the fans. And the board have no plan other than off-loading the club to someone else - if they could only find a buyer. And until they do, we are effectively in limbo.

It can't get much worse. But I reckon it probably will.
  • You're probably right NW but mixing red and white is not a good idea even if it is the club colours! You'll have one of your heads in the morning. Plonker Parky has GOT to go or the club as we know it will languish in the lower divisions for ages. The bloke obviously has no motorvational skills and his reported diatribe following the latest debacle shows the man's inability to cope at this level of management.
  • what a tool, that was yet another complete embarrassment today, im gonna have to change my number cos every saturday i get forest/blades/owls/scunthorpe/barnet/orient/rotherham/erith/danson piss taking texts!

' wives and girlfriend conquests' by Alan Pardew. In all bad bookstores. Now!
  • Mootoo was RB in a game where we got a clean sheet and won, yet the very next game we drop him to play Murty, a loanee who we have for 1 month and who it would seem is carrying an injury....fucking genious our manager.
  • Loaness out, at least play our players who may be here next season!
  • hey let's waste more money we do not have
  • I used to think of Parkinson as Pardew lite. Looking at the amount of bodies being thrown around, and his desire to get even more new ones, plus making 10 changes every week I'll revise that to Pardew squared.
  • You're not wrong. Don't know if you have counted the bodies, Big William, but we've used 24 players in the last four games...20 who have started at least one game and four more who have come on as subs...

Pardkinsons above statement Should be read "I will change this team around to get some more mentalist mercenaries in rather than giving the boys who beat Narwich another chance"
  • well he's brought in Burton, Gillespie, McEverly, Soares, Spring, Waghorn, Murty and NONE have made a real impact. So bring in another 5 loanees I say, that should do the trick. The man's a complete knumskull. He'll never get another job in football again.
  • The board should not spend another penny on loan players. Parky and his mate have wasted countless millions on hopeless transfers.
I'd rather have Audrie the laundry, or Ethel the tea lady in charge. Even they couldn't do worse than 3 points out of 30!

I don't think any manager could get in players much better than them or what we have. It's the one month loans that are the worst. Burton and Spring are the only players we could sign for nothing, or close to nothing, and they don't really improve the squad. I don't mind Burton as a player but I don't see him ever scoring unless it's a penalty.

So we're better off just using what we have. Anyone we can sign isn't going to improve the team enough to keep us up.
  • get them loanees out!

Disagree about McEveley, i felt he was a decent player and probably the only loan signing i wanted us to sign. It's also a bit early to judge Soares as he's only been here 3 days but i'd say he's got to be better than what we have.
    Agree about all the others.
Burton - no better than Dickson or McLeod. Should've saved the money.
    Gillespie - past it
Waghorn - will be a good player but not the right situation for him, didn't need him.
Spring - why? Should've saved the money and played Wright.
Murty - clearly not fit. Better off with Moo2.
