Hello Colin!

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
Just had a text from my bro...its a picture of Warnock in his motah.

So I calll him and ask why he is sending me pix of Colin?

The story goes like this....

'I have just bumped into him in Beckenham' says my bro, 'I was in my van and he was waiting for my space, he asks me if I'm going and can he have my space', my bro says' I should'nt give it to you I'm Charlton', 'Oh' says Colin, my bruv let him have the space anyway and as he's pulling away Warnock taps on the window, and says 'by the way I had an interview for the Charlton job before Pardew got it, but Richard Murray said I was not the type of manager Charlton are looking for'. My bruv says "I wonder why that is Colin"? and drives off!!!!

Lets hope we get 3 points of him as well!! Wanker!!

  • lol Silly Colin Wanker!

But we could have done with his no nonsense approach!
  • Well, he organises his teams well, making them generally hard to beat - and turns average players into good players.

And joins a team in the bottom 3 yet qualifies them for a play-off place.
  • "Not the type of manager Charlton are looking for'' : Murray obviously decided Warnock thought a bit too much of himself. So he gave the job to Pardew instead... lol
  • I've heard from one or two that he's a really decent fella.................never met him myself though.
  • Why would he leave the team he supports in the premiership to join a relegation rival?

    A complete lie.
  • Enjoy reading his column in the Independent each Saturday and he actually comes across as a good bloke
  • Come on people, we've already had a "Jordan seems a decent bloke" thread this week, this is going too far, they will start to think we like them!!
  • Sound asa, my bruv said he took the Colin comment well!!
  • needs to be quiet an unassuming, thats why we got Dowie and er Pards...

Yeah, I thought that of you, until I finally met you recently..... :-)

  • [cite]Posted By: Friend Or Defoe[/cite]Why would he leave the team he supports in the premiership to join a relegation rival?

    A complete lie.

He'd been at Sheff Utd for 7 years, invariably the nearly boys trying for promotion each year, before finally winning promotion to the Prem.

Believe it or not, he was constantly criticized from within the club despite his relative success and there was lots of animosity towards him. When he asked if his contact was going to be renewed when it expired, the Chairman told him they hadn't come to any decision. After more bitterness and mud-slinging in the wake of relegation, he resigned on the spot.

It was months later, in October, that Palace offered him their manager's job.

So the facts are, that he didn't leave a team in the Prem to join a relegation rival - and had already been out of work 5 months before he got the Palace job.
  • I'm prepared to get shot down over this but i've always liked the bloke. No nonsense approach, takes no sh*t, and if a decision goes against his side he's not afraid to give the ref a load of abuse. He's also always come across as ok when i've seen him as a pundit on tv.
Doesn't stop me hating him when we play them though.

Great Analysis Chris the 'Robbie Savage' of the Management world, give him dogs abuse when playing against him, but deep down you have to respect the bloke...wanker!
  • I've got a soft spot for him.....................Hackney marshes
  • Met him at Beckenham whilst watching (Super) Kent.
He's a Sheff.U supporter, who lives in Devon, but he bought his kids KCCC shirts.
Actually wanted to dislike the fella, but he's actually anice bloke.
  • Bit of grudging respect on here after all.

Who would have thought it, eh .....?

got to say met him after a Sheff Utd game at the Valley in the PL - My boy was getting autographs when he came out and he stood there and signed autpgraphs and had photos with EVRERY kid that was there depsite people trying to get him to leave. He told them to bugger off in the end a he said kids are the future of football and he would stay and sign all autographs before he goes. He then proceeded to have a "chat" with a couple of charlton fans who tried to have a go at him about Sheff Utd's style of play and stood there for a good 10 minutes chatting with these fans in the end about football in the end. The Sheff Utd people with him were doing there nut because they wanted to leave but he was having none of it.

Top fella to be fair - a complete w***** on the sideline but that' just shows his passion for footie - totally the opposite, it seems, in the flesh
  • Back to his notts Coiunty days, publicly the guy has always rubbed me up the wrong way but the turning point for me was when he took the same squad of players that failed so miserably under Peter Taylor and turned it into what he did. That's what a manager shoud be judged on and that was brilliant, backing up what he did at Notts Co and Shef United.
  • i like the bloke
  • [cite]Posted By: northstandsteve[/cite]i like the bloke

    I like you too, Steve.

  • As much as I can't stand Palace it's fair to say that Neil Warnock is a good football manager who gets results, he turned a Palace side that were certs for the drop into promotion contenders, lo and behold he is doing it again. The Tangoman may be a tosser but he recognised that Peter Taylor was taking them into league 1 and acted swiftly to change things. It's fair to say it worked.

Same here. A mate met him at the cricket last season - said he spent most of the afternoon chatting to him. Top bloke apparently.
  • I can't believe I'm saying this but I like him too.
  • Yep - I like him as well. Would be over the moon if he managed Charlton, but it'll never happen - once he's finished at Palace he'll retire. I know a few people who've met him and all of them say he's very friendly, down to earth and genuine. Compare that with Pardew and they hardly even seem to be the same species.
  • He's obviously a big cricket fan as I'm the third person here who can claim to have met him at a Kent match!
  • i dont know why but the united fans used to slate him on 'praise or grumble' the bbc radio sheffield saturday post match programme. i actually love listening to the fickle masses in sheffield on a saturday night. lose two games and they are baying for blood. win two and they are supporting the most consistent, attractive, team in the country.

id love him to bring no nonesense football to the valley right now. dont care if he was all-time leaading scorer for palarse if he brought the premier league back. that would really p**s the tanned one off.

That is unless you all met him at the same match?

It seems to be the same as when Curbs had us as a mid table prem side and a load of people would phone up various chat shows and winge about Curbs not taking Charlton to the next level....
  • Bottom line is he gets results, regardless if we like him or not we would not be in the mess we are in now if he had got the Charlton job.
    Still a tosser though
