Who fancies a cup run this year then ??!!

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
Got a bit further than usual so far, and based on our recent league run I guess we're not expected to go through against sheff utd either, therefore when the odds are against you, you never know, teams near/at the bottom of their respective league tend to do well in the FA cup.........

  • Maybe this year...............?
  • We are already in the 3rd round, thats pretty decent!!!
  • Wish we have a good run.FA CUP importance seems to be slowly building up again.
  • he he he e ho ho ho ha ha ha nooooooooooo say it again " a cup run"

a "cup run" for us is the ball with our number on it traveling from the bag to the rack (always like a good rack).

Expect a reserve team and a swift exit--------anything more is a bonus.
  • Tis the only way of fulfilling my dream of following the Addicks in Europe. However statistically I have about the same chance of winning the Lotto. And I don't buy a ticket.

Nevertheless I would fancy a 4th round tie at the Emirates Stadium. Did you know Emirates is an anagram for Arse Time? My prediction though, should we squeak past Udders, is Sheff Wed or similar obstacle to further progress that would not fire up the imagination too much.
  • What's a cup run??

Surprised we are still in it tbh

  • I think we will win against Huddersfield. Would love a cup run as I think we have enough quality in the team to keep us in the league as it is so a cup run shouldn't cause too much of a disruption.
  • I do. Good for morale and a couple of games against big prem clubs will bring in a nice few pahnds

  • yes if some squad players like BWP get a game, No if it means more potential injurys to players we need to keep us up
  • We don't do cups....;o)
  • Nolly

    This!

Yep that'll do , would rather stay up than get distracted with a cup run.
  • How about staying up AND a cup run. Both are possible.
  • Man Utd away in a couple rounds could theoretically bring in about £1.2 million for the club (from a very quick bit of maths). If we survived a few games it could be a bit of a springboard for next season. Anyone remember the Orient manager a season or two ago going on about how "all the cash we have got from the FA cup adds up to a million so we can definitely pursue a court case regarding the olympic stadium decision." Deluded but still, good money.
  • Yes said that at the start of the season, mid table in the league and a good solid cup run with a couple of games against good prem oppo and give them a run for their money.
  • We scored four goals yesterday, Huddersfield conceeded six so its obvious an away win on saturday.
  • Any club has the ability to have a cup run in the fa or carling cup which is the semi final onwards . It doesn't take anything to do it and its quite offensive that we are one of a band of clubs unable to do so . 1947 must have been amazing for anyone over the age of 75 but for everyone on here keep your memory of frigging Bolton or Wycombe as the nearest to a cup run . Offensive our cup history
  • All depends on the luck of the draw, think Palace got to the semis one year and had all home draws against lower divison teams.

Jan 2004 we lose at Gillingham during the Scott Parker saga to chelsea , when we were flying high , therefore missing out on a run to the FA cup final that would have meant we didn't play any Prem teams and could have stopped millwall from making it (maybe) as well
it still makes me feel ill , that was our year and we'd have got in to europe and instead the scum did aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

  • Nothing to do with luck of draw with us . You get there on merit
  • All those different players and managers but we have always remained a terrible cup team. It doesnt make any sense.
  • the only London teams that have not been in a FA Cup final in 50 years ?

    Brentford
    Orient
    Charlton

    sad stato that one

  • I heard Powell on radio yesterday say it will be youth and squad players. Plus north upper being shut will probarly mean i will swerve this one... or end up buying on day.
  • Orient made a semi final gh though

We dont want a Cup run because:
    1) We want to stay in this league
    2) We are after promotion
    3) We dont have a big enough squad
    4) We dont want injuries etc (see above)
    5) We wont win it.
    6) We dont give a shit
    7) Its in our DNA we are the Worlds worst Cup team FACT
    8) We dont give a shit
    9) Our squad is big enough and of such quality that we can put our third team out.
    10) we dont give a shit

Any and all of the above apply.

Lets get real for a minute , this is Charlton we are talking about not Man United , any hope of cup glory with Charlton was beaten out of me years ago.

Not correct. The mighty Barnet and Dagenham & Redbridge have also not been to a cup final in that time or ever.

(Fulham haven't won the cup and have not been in a cup final for nearly 40 years. QPR also haven't won the cup and it is over 30 years since they got to the final.)

  • I heard that we might win it in the next 18 seasons
