The Coca-Cola Football League Championship

Birmingham v Cardiff
Bristol City v Wolverhampton,
Coventry v Blackpool
Crystal Palace v Ipswich
Derby v QPR
Norwich v Barnsley
Nottm Forest v Plymouth
Preston v Burnley
Sheff Wed v Charlton
Southampton v Doncaster
Swansea v Reading
Watford v Sheff Utd

I'm looking all the way up to Plymouth for teams that may have a bad run and be possible for us to catch. They are away to Forest, who i think are no good but will be organised enough under Davies to pick up enough points along the way.

Southampton v Doncaster is obviously one that strikes you as having a big impact on us this Saturday, while Norwich have a must win against Barnsley.

Who are you concentrating on as likely candidates to be sucked into it if we pick up ?

My ones are Soton, Doncaster, Blackpool, Barnsley

  • We just need another dirty win
  • or another ten dirty wins
  • only scary thing is even a win on saturday will leave us bottom, i can really see alot more teams being dragged down and if the reactions at norwich last night were true they could be bang in trouble, WE have to follow up last night with a win on saturday, we cant go up there and take another heavy defeat it would make last nights efforts pointless, hope kins and the others can keep the lads buzzing and rip into sheff.
  • draws wont be enough we need to win and we need goals and unfortunately we aint gonna get them form burton.....
so let us hope ambrose has got his midass touch back ;-)
  • Saturday is about closing the gap, we have to win and hope to heap pressure on the others, evryone thinks we are gone so where is the pressure?
  • can't see anyone above Watford being dragged back into it. To catch Plymouth we'd have to show automatic promotion form and that ain't gonna happen.

Agree with this, making up 14 points on Plymouth who have a game in hand just aint going to happen. Blimey it's amazing what a win does, a 1-0 win against a terrible team and suddenly we're going to start winning games every week.
I can only see us catching Norwich, Doncaster and Southampton.
  • You wonder about Blackpool without Grayson, Watford have real problems, is Clough good enough at CCC level.
  • when did charlton last win in the league at wednesday?
  • A few more wins and I'll start lookin at catching teams. At the minute just being in the mix/running would be nice. The hope is back though! I woke up smiling today, I forgot what it felt like to have won the night before!

  • Not really bothered about anyone else. If we win around 10 games and get a few draws we will stay up.

Just two years ago 7/1/2006 in the FA Cup...Wednesday 2, Charlton 4. Last time we won there in the league was 5th September 1953... :o(

    Well said, Sco.

We don't need to worry about a hypothetical points tally of 53 or something, or whatever Coventry stayed up on last season.

1 point more than the 22nd place club = safety.

    That's our target.

After 10 matches, no matter how inconsistant our play was, nobody in the whole League would have thought Charlton would be 7 points behind safety in mid-Jan.

That's how unexpectedly teams can go on a dreadful run. Look how we went into freefall last season. Coventry were top of the League in September 2007, beat Man Utd away in a Cup match but missed relegation by just a single point.

Apart from Forest, we've got to play all the bottom half teams. They are all 6 pointers.
That's what decides if we stay up or not.
  • If Millwall were top at Christmas and still managed to get relegated I'm sure we can get out of this! The rose tinted glasses were dusted off this morning and are firmly back resting on my nose.
  • Too true, I just wish we weren't SO far adrift, 19 points really is a paltry return for 27 games.

Or should that be Oggy Rev......?
