Team on Saturday

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
I wonder what PArky will do now after the win in norwich with some players who didnt seem to be in his plans.

I think he has a few conundrums

1. Ambrose or shelvey behind the striker
2. Who is the striker in Deons absense
3.centre mid, does spring come back in for wright
4. moots or murty? Sounds like moots was celebrating with the fans and would seem harsh to drop him but murts was good
5.Gandulf or Elliot

What would YOU do? What will Parky do?

    1) Shelvey
    2) Gray
    3) Of course
    4) Murty
    5) 100% Elliott
  • 1) Ambrose this is his best position. could rotate the two.
2). Mambo. What a gamble though !! The new Emil Heskey.
    3). Spring.
4). Murty push Motokil up field. Sam and Motokil as wingers.
    5). Randolph.

I reckon Parky has got some serious conundrums.

This is the team I have a suspicion he's minded to play :

    -----------Elliot-------

    Murty Fortune Hudson Basey-------

    Soares Bailey Holland Spring-------

    ----------Shelvey-------

    -----------Gray------

Not a bad side - but SEVEN changes from the starting XI that has just won us our first game in three and a half months...

If we win, he'll be hailed as a tactical genius for shuffling our options so cleverly. If we don't win, he'll be called a damn fool (and far worse) for chopping and changing and dismantling an XI that had succeeded where 18 different starting line-ups had previously failed ...

You can argue it's not a bad problem to have, but I reckon he'll be having a sleepless night or two while he wrestles with this one...
  • 1. I'd like to see Shelvey again, hard choice though if Ambrose is at his best.
    2. Gray probably, not really any other options. He won't put Todorov, McLeod or Dickson in from the start.
    3. Wright, wasn't impressed with Spring, really don't think there's that much between them. Might see Spring out wide.
    4. Both good in different ways, Parkinson will go for Murty.
    5. Another hard choice. He could have gone for the easier option and played Elliot again. Now he has to choose between them. Not sure myself.

Some big choices there, if we don't win it'll be blamed on his decisions of who to keep and who to drop.
  • Parky said to the players before the game that he basically had a blank sheet and asked who wanted to be on it.

Judging by that I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more of the youth involved. And too right, first time they've all been involved at the same time and the first time we've won in 18 games.

[cite]Posted By: Chunes[/cite]wouldn't be surprised to see a few more of the youth involved.

Solly has got to be involved at some point, saw him tonight, and did same time last year. Very good both times, good defensively, going forward and looks like he really wants to be as good as he possibly can. Think he'd do very well with better players around him.

I'd like to see Arter get on the bench as well when he comes back from Staines, or at least go on loan to a higher level.

Can see him being a consistent player in the Championship or Prem if he keeps working hard and has a good attitude.

I expect Mambo to get a pro contract, maybe even later on this season.

I think those 3 are the next lot that might be involved, though Arter has already made his debut for us, shame he had a big injury last season. Aswad Thomas doesn't look like ever playing for us, no idea how Mikkel Jensen is doing.

    I thought Mambo was CH?
  • stick with a winning side and play Dickson for Burton
  • I would play a team with no loan players :-)

    But Parky will play:

    Elliott

    Murty Hudson Fortune Basey

    Sam Bailey Spring Ambrose

    Shelvey

    Gray
  • I would go with that nelsonout, unfortunatley I dont think Parky would.

  • 'I thought Mambo was CH? '

Yep desparate times calls for desparate measures.
  • So who exactly will be available to play for us up front on Saturday?

    Burton - inelligible
    Gray - going, going gone?
    Bouazza - gone
    Fleetwood - out on loan
Dickson - yet to make a start
McCleod - gone out on loan
    Varney - gone
    Todorov - can't run
Waghorn - let's hope he stays fit
  • just as long as we drop all the pesky kids who are getting above themselves having won one game in the cup.

As many loan players are possible as they have vital experience and nous.

    - ------------Rudolph--------------
    - ----Murty--Husdon---Fortune---
    Moo2---------------------------------Basey
    --------Soares---Bailey---Spring-------
    -----------------Shelvey-------------------
    ------------------Gray---------------------
  • Parkinson will pick Murty as he has no doubt promised both the player and Reading he will but I think if anybody went back and watched the 90 minutes against Forest they would see how poor he was.

Maybe another week's training will have improved his sharpness but he looked well off the pace to me on Saturday and has to take some of the blame alongside Hudson for the first goal.

Can't go on Sat as have got a game myself but will be interested to see what the Loyal travelling faithful report back on his performance.
  • what worries me is there will be 7 changes from Norwich to Sheff Weds, 7 changes from Sheff Weds to Sheff Utd, then 7 changes from Sheff Utd to Palace. All because the loanees will be cup-tied or not permeitted to play plus Burton ineligibility. No consistancy and those that play in the Cup know they will be bombed out anyway so no incentive to play well either. I can see another couple of disasters looming as a result.
  • Elliot

    Murty
    Hudson
    Fortune
    Basey

    Soares
    Bailey
    Shelvey
    Spring

    Ambrose (free role)

    Gray

Subs: Randolph, Moo2, Holland, Sam, Waghorn.

The midfield is clearly not ideal but I just can't leave any of the five out... it's our one area of strength at the moment
  • My Starting 11 for Saturday

    Randolph

    Murty
    Hudson
    Fortune
    Basey

    Spring
    Soares

    Bailey

    Shelvey
    Ambrose

    Dickson
  • Is it official that Burton can't play?
  • [cite]Posted By: BigRedEvil[/cite]Is it official that Burton can't play?

Yes, apparently we agreed to it.
  • Sponsored links:

  • 1. Ambrose
    2. Gray, if he's still here, otherwise Waggy
    3. Spring
    4. Moo2, still believe he is our best defender
    5. Elliot
  • Remember the Reading game - that we won?
Pardew never chose the same starting XI again. As I recall he had to make one change for the next game but made several more.
Perhaps Parky might have learned from that?
  • [cite]Posted By: Solaraddick[/cite]Perhaps Parky might have learned from that?

I'm pretty certain he'll drop Wright, think it's likely he'll drop Moutaouakil, Burton can't play so that's already 3 changes. Can't see Wagstaff starting a league game, so that's four.
  • I would go as follows

    Elliot
    Moots
    Fort
    Hud
    Basey

    SoaresCM
    BaileyCM

    Sam RW
    Ambrose LW

    Shelvey

    Gray

It's in midfield that Parky has issues to resolve.

From our winning team, Elliot back for Randolph, Murty in for Moots and Gray for Burton. That's already three changes. But how does he sort out the middle of the park?

Seven in contention for five places, I reckon.

    Soares
    Bailey
    Shelvey
    Spring
    Ambrose
    Sam
    Holland

Bailey must play as the most muscular there. Soares and Spring presumably start , else why bring them in at all. I'd be inclined to go for Holland over Sam, to keep it a bit tighter. Then I guess it's Shelvey or Ambrose playing behind Gray...unless they both play, Ambrose further forward with Shelvey dropping back in place of Holland...

Whichever way Parky goes, it looks like a minimum of SIX changes from the only winning team we've put out in three and a half months, only one of those changes enforced. Which feels like a very odd sentence to be writing!
  • Ambrose carrying an injury and in doubt for tomorrow, apparently. So I reckon:

    -----------Elliot-------

    Murty Fortune Hudson Basey-------

    Soares Bailey Holland Spring-------

    ----------Shelvey-------

    -----------Gray------

The astonishing thing about that side is that only Fortune, Hudson, Pacey Basey and Bailey remain from the starting XI that won for the first time in 19 attempts just three days ago...

I suppose Sam might start, possibly ahead of Holland. But although that would give the midfield more attack, it would surely feel a little frail defensively...
  • Thing is Nigel, virtually with no exception I should think - if we could have played that line up at the beginning of the season, we'd have all thought that was a good team.
  • edited January 2009
I agree, Oggy - and I still think it is potentially a very good team (apart from lack of fire power up-front). And the very fact that even when victories are rarer than hen's teeth we can contemplate making seven changes from a winning side shows that we are not as hard up for players who ought to be able to do a decent job as we sometimes imagine...

on edit: x-ref to '35 players used this season' thread...
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: superclive[/cite]I would go as follows

    Elliot
    Moots
    Fort
    Hud
    Basey

    SoaresCM
    BaileyCM

    Sam RW
    Ambrose LW

    Shelvey

    Gray[/quote]

It could well be the first time supaclive and superclive have ever agreed! :-)
  • For Parkinson’s first ever match in charge at QPR he dropped Holland and Bailey from the midfield to bring in Semedo and Racon.

So I think it is fair to say he isn’t totally stacked with either of them. Now that Spring has come in and Shelvey has returned to first team reckoning, with Racon ‘hopefully’ only a couple of weeks away, I think we may be unlikely to see Holland and Bailey together again UNLESS injuries/suspensions force it (Semedo already a goner), Shelvey walks out in February or loans are recalled.

One thing that does concern me is that Ambrose is out again and I do wonder if he is once more being lined up for a move? The arrival of Soares, albeit for 4-5 games, offers us a temporary alternative to him, although Ambrose’s record of goals and assists is considerably higher.

Really want Ambrose to stay. His flexibility could be vital if we mount a comeback – he can play wide, can offer an alternative to Jonjo behind a front man and, if nothing else, is at least an experienced hand to throw on for the last 25 minutes from the bench if we need to hunt down a goal.

Suspect Murty for Moo2, Spring for Wright and Soares for Wagstaff are definite changes tomorrow. If Ambrose is indeed out, Shelvey will return behind the front man.
