What's Sodje up to these days?

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
Is he getting a game at Reading?

Is he fit?

Is he worth going for as cover or to replace Hudson?

  • SODJE HEADS BACK
    Wed 01 Oct 2008
LOANEE Sam Sodje has today (Tuesday) returned to Championship rivals Reading after aggravating a knee injury on Saturday during his debut for the Golden Boys against Sheffield United.

The defender will now go back to the Madejski Stadium for treatment and faces a spell on the sidelines.

Sodje was signed last Friday due to a horrendous injury situation at Vicarage Road, he started against the Blades on Saturday, taking the place of captain Jay DeMerit, as the Hornets went down 2-1.

Doesn't say how long he will be out for.

I don't rate him for a team chasing promotion from this league, but now we're bottom of the league he'd be good cover. He's a good League One, lower Championship player at best.

like his brother Efe who has played in the lower leagues most of his carrer, hes the bloke who wears the bandana..
  • I quite liked him when he was on loan last season and assumed he would be signing permanently in the Summer - certainly would be a committed player even if only on loan, passing is poor but never shys away from a header
  • He was absolute quality. We do need big Sam...would be great if he had a middle name beginning with 'O' as his initials would be SOS...lol
  • Spoke to him after the last game of last season and he said that he would love to sign for us on a permanent basis and so was very surprised when Pardew didn't make it happen.
  • Comes from Greenwich, his family still live there
  • he was very influencial on getting lita to us last season also, that night he told me he would love to sign full time
  • Onome Sodje, his nephew was a Charlton youngster now scoring goals at York City

I remember hearing him say that as well. Don't know what Reading would have wanted for him but it wouldn't have been a lot surely. Doesn't look like he'll ever play much for them.

There's a whole family of them in football, Akpo at Sheff Wed, Efe as already mentioned another defender, Steve in non-league, Bright a rugby player.
  • Released by Reading today as his contract has finished.
  • We could do a lot worse.

Agree. Would take him like a shot.
  • Rumoured to be joining Bristol City
  • Henry do you know how Charlton track these avaliable players ? IE We know he's available but do Waggott/ Murray /Parky know?

You've heard RM talk so you know he has his finger on the pulse regarding players plus I heard a rumour that he is a lurker on here. Then again that might just have been AFKA talking his site up ; - )

Released players' names are circulated around other clubs.

In addition agents will contact managers/CEOs/Chairmen to flog players.

Murray also has a lot of contacts within the game as does Waggott.

I would guess that if Sodje and/or his agent wanted to come to Charlton they would have already been in touch with Parky/Murray/Waggott to let them know and vice versa

Parky was going to games nearly weekday night as well, so I'm told, so will have seen a lot of games and players as well.
  • Will probably join Leeds Utd
  • "Released players' names are circulated around other clubs"

Yes but if "the powers that be" are distracted with other goings on, are these available players being looked at, with a view to signing them, if we want them ?

Parky would know all about Sodje but generally I just don't know. I would guess that the club knows who is available but are waiting to see who's calling the shots and who's paying.

And that, IMHO, could mean that we miss out on players as Large Addick may have mentioned once or twice : - )

I played Rugby with Bright Sodje. He turned up at our club played for half a season and then went off to join Blackheath. Next thing i know is that he's lining up for Hull KR in the Super League. Quickest bloke I have ever seen. No one could get anywhere near him.
