Niggling Feeling........

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
Perhaps it's just me but supporting Charlton for as long as I have I just feeling that there is some thing not right (maybe the wrong the words) - but I have a niggling feeling that something is still going on behind the scenes ie: the Zabeel deal still going on.......

Am I the only one that is thinking this?? Or am I just wishfull thinking......

  • I think We all wish that

but because we are a PLC nothing could go on behind the scenes
  • certainly a lot of things not right at the moment !!
  • Always something going on behind the scenes.

    Usually another loan deal.

I think that is a bit naive! I'm sure plenty goes on behind the scenes up to a certain point.

I mean on the scale of the club being bought
  • I did hear over the xmas period that we are going to get taken over by a UK based syndicate. They will clear our debt and just make us a stable club again. However if we go down then thats that!

I still Love Charlton and always will! regardless of what league we are in
  • If we go down (unlikely i know) would that make us more attractive to a buyer as the price would drop?
  • After the AGM thing it's no wonder Zabeel decided to pull out. The papers were reported to be worried about our wages.

If they didn't fancy it I doubt many others would

WSS - Totally Agree - How many times over the years have we signed a player and not a word has been leaked until they are in front of the press in our shirt.

I'm not saying there is anything going on - Just my own personal (and the family) feeling...
  • we can still dream of a turn around on and off the field

Zabeel were not put off by anything in our accounts - they said as much themselves. Due diligence was not a problem.

Maybe we were still more expensive than Zabeel thought but now it is clear we should be cheap as chips !

I think Zabeel pulled out because someone told them that they may be able to get West Ham on the cheap in a few month's time!!
  • My personal opinion, and this is purely opinion, and not a criticism as I believe we owe our board a hell of a lot, is that there is a split in the board at some level, causing indecision and friction.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but somethings not right somewhere.
  • Nothing to stop the majority shareholder (s) negotiating with 3rd parties behind the scenes.

It is only if something tangible emerges from those negotiations that affects ALL shareholders (eg an offer of purchase) that all shareholders have to be consulted.
  • I do not want to be the profit of doom here but I am having the same feelings and I would not be at all surprised if we are still put into administration and suffer a points deduction for next season.

I know Richard Murrey has spoken to the SLP and stated that it will not happen but think about it, the money he and the rest of the Director's pump into CAFC comes from their personal wealth i.e. from the business they own and run, and from investments they have, if the economic downturn stays the same and runs through 2009 these business's and investments will suffer and money will become tight.

I think the noises coming out of the club now are to soften the blow for when it happens, I hope I am wrong but the latest set of accounts do not lie and we are in a sorry state at the moment.
  • The gulf in feeling between that moment of SSN breaking news, live outside our ground, to what i feel now is remarkable.
  • Any takeover would be about about anyone being daft enough to take on the debt and the current trading loss - the business is worth diddly squat right now. I don't believe there is anyone daft enough to do that.

I share DA9's view that there is quite possibly split opinion re the future at director level.

For both above reasons, I am intensely worried about the future of Charlton right now - on the pitch I can cope with Div 3, have been there before, but off it is much, much more concerning. (And I don't mean you Off-It...) In 1984 we nearly went out of business because we owed one million pounds. We owe an awful lot more than that right now, at a time when the financial markets and values of everything are plummetting. What a time to end up in such a mess!

It's enough to drive me back to my work....
  • East fella "going down and into administration" but you dont want to be the profit of doom ! F**k me dont want to read your post when you are then !!!!

Maria cant see Zebel coming back, not by that name anyway. These Middle East chaps are all about fame, lights, glitter , etc etc hard to do that when your not in the papers while playing Walsall away.

There may well be a split in the Board Room , so what ?

We must remember that the trading figures shown are 6 mnths out of date. The wage bill has gone down.

And you don't think the income has? I'd be pleasantly surprised - indeed shocked - if the figures looked better now. Oh, and there's the little matter of the pay-off to Pardew, too, which isn't in these figures.

Talking of Pardew - I know I have been out of the country for 2 weeks (and also in a country that is practally cut off from any UK news!) but has anyone heard anything from Pardew - it's like he's vanished off the face of the earth??
  • Zabeel pulled out cause the Dubai economy is tanking at a rate of knots and buying a football club isn't the best thing to do when you need a handout from the neighbours.

BTW Who the hell are going to touch West Ham at the moment? FA sniffing about again, Sheffield United waiting for their cheque, the issue that when you buy West Ham, are you paying the British Government for the club, as it's a seized Icelandic asset.
  • Bent --- Faye ---Thomas-------Bougara-------Pardew wages out

Cash for Bogara---Ilumoo----Macarthy------ Varney coming in

its not ging to be great but better yes i think it is.

Was on TV on Sun - there's a thread on here somehwere. I couldn't dare watch it, as didn't want to throw anything at our 42inch plasma! ;-)

GH - do hope you're right, mate!
  • LOL Weggie - Don't blame you mate!

    :o)
  • I read somewhere, unless I've had another very senior moment, that Murray said if Pardew wanted his money then he'd have a long legal battle on his hands. I'm know I read it, i'm sure I read it.
  • DA9 hit the nail on the head for me the only thing going on behind the scenes are back sniping in fighting and power switches none of it very nice or condusive to a happy well run football club unfortunatly
