The charlton roll call yesterday

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
I'm not that sentimental normally but not ashamed I had a few tears in my eyes during the roll call of who was no longer with us.
Think that idea shows why we are rightly proud to be supporters of this club
That and talking to a mate after the game reminded me just how many good people work behind the scenes at this club.
As fans we get frustrated at stuff going on but for some of them they must be worried for their livelihoods if we go down. And at a time when recession is beginning to hit.
You have to believe that most of our players are decent enough to care about this. And we prob all know which ones they are by the way they conduct themselves on the pitch.
We have to keep at it and hope we can turn it around.null

  • Yes a sad moment for a lot of people. I couldn't believe how many were on the list. Well done to the clubs for taking the time to pay tribute to them all.
  • Nice that the Forest fans were invited to remember their fallen too.
  • I thought Forest's fans were very dignified when it was read out and were very grateful that their fallen former players were mentioned too.

For both years I've had someone on that list, and although it chokes you up it is a proud moment seeing someone who really was Charlton til they died. Plus by getting the away fans involve really makes it.

Perhaps it's something that the club should get the league to adopt?
  • Certainly choked me up.
  • Well done all those at the club who must have spent a lot of time compiling names, getting the big screen scroll timing's worked out, writing the script (nice touch with the Forest keeper), liaising with the ref, etc, etc.

Seems to be a tradition now. Long may it continue.
  • Has anyone seen any comments on other sites/blogs?

There was some negativity last year, some valid and some not IMHO, and I wondered if views have changed.

Personally I have no view either way but it clearly means a lot to many fans and therefore is something that the club should be appluded for.

What was the negativity? I don't really see what they is to be negative about.
  • Certainly choked me up too.

I was thinking of my dad who passed away 19 years ago.

He obviously has missed out on the rise of this club and would have been extremely proud to have seen us in the Prem, get back to the valley and see the ground develop.

(And he would have been moaning and groaning like the rest of us about the state of the team today)
  • It’s a great idea, and something the club and Ben deserve credit for.

The only thing I would add is that it seems to have resulted in no specific minute silences for exceptional cases such as Sailor Brown, although this may have been due to the minute applause being the following game.
