Will Parkinson be here next season?

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
The board said till the end of the season. But what happens in the summer, surely the board would have to find money from somewhere to replace someone with such a shocking record?

I don't believe he is going to turn it round and I'm sure alot of others feel the same, so why do we have a manager no-one believes in? :-( I'm, sure in the summer a few players will leave and we can afford a new manager.

  • Problem being it will be all the good players that will leave and we'll just have the dross left
  • no..... he will become the worst manager in the history of the club.......

and the only manager in history that was hired after demonstration "bottom of the table form' during his caretaker period......

    Fucking disgrace
  • Depends on how the rest of the season goes.If it carrys on as it is he'll definitely keep the job.;)

Utterly on the money Mascot 88.
  • It is conceivable that if he does start getting results it may be to late anyway therefore money constraints will be worse and then the board may have to wait until he's contract runs out to avoid compensation. The board could then think well, stick with him until then as he has experience in the 3rd division.

Sorry if I refer to div 1 as div 3 it is the way I still see it and right now don't see any point dressing up where we are possibly heading.
  • Maybe Sir Chris will return as player manager.
  • The board have made a series of blunders since the day Alan Curbishley was 'clapped out the front door'
Although the evidence so far would seem to point to the contrary, i hope they have learned something from the last two years.
If Mr Parkinson has indeed been given a contract to the end of this season and no more than that. (though i've never seen it said that this is the case) When the season is complete and we are relegated, they should be able to thank Mr Parkinson for his sterling effort and wave him goodbye at no cost at all.
Conversely, if a remarkable turn around ensues, and we survive, then he can be offered a new contract, if that is the wish of the board.
  • Think he's on a longer contract than end of the season, because I doubt that his upgrading affects the existing contract he was already on. Only the job description on that contract has been changed from 'assistant manager' to 'manager', nothing else - or at least, that was my understanding of the situation.

My view is they will keep him for at least 18 months, which will then mean that they have effectively got rid of Pardew for free. So get used to it - Parky will be our manager in div one next season, I'm 100 per cent certain.

That's why I spent all last week trying to warm to him (see thread called 'Warming to Parky') and kidding myself that I could see a coherent plan to get us out of this mess in his transfer dealings. He's not my choice and he should not be here. But I'm buggered if I'm going to waste my energies over the next 18 months campaigning against him when it just ain't going to happen, so I'm going to shut up and support him the best I can.
  • Agreed, Nigel. I do actually feel he has more of an idea than Pardew - his signings and attempt to reorganise the squad are evidence of that. Trying to change things mid-season is very difficult, then add to that he has no money to play with...

With Pardew it was throw everything at the wall and hope some of it sticks. I'm glad there is more sense of reality and structure from Parky, and I give him and the players huge credit for keeping going for the full 95 minutes yesterday. The only one whose head dropped was Hudson - and we know Parky has been trying to get cover in for centre half. He does need to replace him as captain, though, as he''s just not up to the job right now.

  • Oh, you can bet your sweet arse he will. All the decent players will be sold (so that's Shelvey gone then), and we'll be stuck with all the detritus and yet more loanees, this time players who can't get in the team from mid-table Championship clubs instead of Pompey and Sunderland. Sorry to be a downer, but best get used to the idea there are hard times ahead for a long old time.

I agree with that about Parkinson and Pardew.

I just don't see where we will get anyone better. We might have got someone that had a good effect on the team for a few games, recent example being Redknapp at Spurs, but I don't think we'd have got a manager a level above Parkinson.

He's got a very hard job this month trying to sort out the squad. He's said he wants a striker, we're assuming he'll get another centre back considering we only have two, and we could do with another winger.

No other manager we could get in would be able to make better signings, they'd all be in the same position. Loans and cheap signings like Spring.

We're struggling to score goals and that's putting pressure on the defence. If we went 1 or 2-0 up yesterday, and 2 or 3-0 up against Norwich, we probably would have been ok. Forest would have been on the attack, and we could have scored another on the counter.

It's not like the performances are that far off being wins, it's a matter of going 1 or 2-0 up and taking our early chances. We very nearly did it against Derby.

    ..........

What if he does turn it around? If so then surely he deserves another chance. If we do go down I think it'll depend on how we go down, limp performances and a lost hanging room, and he's out. A few fighting performances and maybe he'll get a second chance. But if he does go, I hope this time the board will learnn from the departures of Curbs, Dowie, Reed and Pardew and line-up his successor first.
  • Tend to agree with the posts that suggest that Parkinson will lead us next season. Only way I see things changing at all next season is if come Christmas we are not in touch with the playoffs. At that point I do think the board would act.

    a lost hanging room.

The way things are going, it won't stay lost for long. I could see more people queueing in there than for a beer at half time...
  • Hanging room? Have we got one? Who should we send there first? I nominate that little linesman against Fulham.
  • just another pardew get rid of him
  • Kinsella will be the next manager. He's least cost a la Parkinson and is already making his play.
