Why?

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
Did we allow the game to be played today, bad surface especially in the second half despite all the hard work by the ground staff to get the game on

Why have we signed Murty? Am I alone in thinking that he was not match sharp or match fit and offered us nothing more than Mooty has?

Why did Andy Gray come on for 30 mins and do absolutely nothing? Why does he not jump?

Why are people fed up with Burton... holds the ball up, lays it off, got in to at least have two chances?

Why is Hudson so poor? Did nothing to rally the troops when they scored

Why will I probably be at Norwich and def at Sheff Wed nxt week?

Why doesn't Kinsella get cold, it was brass monkeys today

Why have we signed Matthew Spring?

Why have west Ham got a superb crop of youngsters coming thro and being blooded in their first team in the premiership right now

Why are we bottom of this league?

Why are people calling for the board to go, they own the club and the debt... get real

Why do I still believe that we will get out of this position

Why didn't Addickted reply to my text at half time (sorry to hear about your mum, have similar concerns)

Why can't I tell Ms Lat when we will won again, she is so saddened by our predicamnet

Why didn't we give Curbishley £23m?

Why did Parker bugger of and leave us in the lurch?

Why?

    Why indeed, Lats?

Agree with everything except your comment re Murty (and can't answer for Addickted!) - thought Murty was a class above today, and still willing to go in where it hurts right to the very end.

(Actually also disagree with the first one!)
  • Why indeed?

I Share you concerns Lats and am still hoping we can avoid relegation.

I Just wonder what will happen if we do go down,THINGS will change but i also wonder if parky will get us back up again, we really are in trouble.
  • I'll pick up on a few of these and give you my opinions.

I thought Murty was solid and showed his experience. I don't remember seeing him ball watch once which immediately gives him an advantage over moo2. If thats him unfit then I hope he gets fit soon because he'll be great for us. Solidity is what we need at the moment and Murty definitely gives us that (at least on the basis of this game).

I think the problem with Burton is that he doesn't really look like scoring. The two opportunities he had, he looked like a player who has only scored once from open play in however many games someone said earlier - there seemed little conviction. Most of his good work is outside the penalty area. He links play very well at times, but we need him to start doing some good work inside the area too.

Hudson was one of my main areas for concern today - and not just for his terrible performance. I've noticed recently that his head is one of the first to drop when we concede. Instead of lifting the players and rallying the troops, his head goes down. We need a captain to stand up and encourage and spur us on. To be honest, after the goals I saw more response from Murty and Spring than Hudson, and they've been here 5 minutes, almost literally in Spring's case.

As for why you'll be at Norwich and Sheff Wed, I can only suggest that its because you're mental.

As for why Kinsella doesn't get cold, I can only suggest that its because he's mental hard.
  • Tricky - totally agree about Burton, when he went through early on i didn't once think he's going to score this, but when Holland headed it back i just knew Earnshaw was going to score. Thats the difference.
  • Lats - Why?
    Cos we are Charlton
  • This is a bit like one of those letters that used to get on Jim'll Fix It; i.e, "Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please..".
  • Why did we allow the game to be played today, bad surface especially in the second half despite all the hard work by the ground staff to get the game on

    - Didn't think it was that bad.

Why have we signed Murty? Am I alone in thinking that he was not match sharp or match fit and offered us nothing more than Mooty has?

    - Murty was OK. Feel sorry for Moo2kill though, it's not as if he's done much wrong.

Why did Andy Gray come on for 30 mins and do absolutely nothing? Why does he not jump?

    - It's what he does best.

Why are people fed up with Burton... holds the ball up, lays it off, got in to at least have two chances?

    - Because he's not scored yet despite a good run in the team and despite getting reasonable chances, doesn't ever look like scoring.

Why is Hudson so poor? Did nothing to rally the troops when they scored

    - He's not the Rock we need.

Why will I probably be at Norwich and def at Sheff Wed nxt week?

    - Bravery, loyalty, madness? I don't know, you tell us.

Why doesn't Kinsella get cold, it was brass monkeys today

    - You can't get cold and forge a career as a midfield general.

Why have we signed Matthew Spring?

    - Best question yet.

Why have west Ham got a superb crop of youngsters coming thro and being blooded in their first team in the premiership right now

    - ???

Why are we bottom of this league?

    - It's all down to a special secret recipe of bad defending, bad luck and inability to hit the net.

Why are people calling for the board to go, they own the club and the debt... get real

    - Because they're afflicted. Quite right, get real!

Why do I still believe that we will get out of this position

    - Don't know, but I wish I had your faith.

Why didn't Addickted reply to my text at half time (sorry to hear about your mum, have similar concerns)

    - ?

Why can't I tell Ms Lat when we will won again, she is so saddened by our predicamnet

    - Awful isn't it. What gets me is that everyone knows about our predicament no matter how little they know about footie. When we were doing well, they were all oblivious.

Why didn't we give Curbishley £23m?

    - because he was doing very nicely without it.

Why did Parker bugger of and leave us in the lurch?

    - Cash and Kudos.

    Why?[/quote]

    - Why not. Shit happens. It just happens to be happening to us at the moment.
  • Time to strip Hudson of the captaincy- give it to someone who cares- Holland . If we get the chance to sign Murty or McElveley on a permanent basis we should take it as BOTH give it their all .
  • I agree with Stig. I also think that given the current teams position and performance it is time to look for another captain... Nicky Bailey is the man in my opinion.
  • Why don't you just try and text the right number you muppet?

    See you at Norwich.

Does a captain really matter? What we need is a team that can play football . In the pub tonight we wondered how this lot would get on next season in the first division - *1905 is looking on his keyboard for an arrow pointing downwards*
  • Yes. I think a captain is fundamentally important to a teams performance. I've think Bailey is being groomed for the captains position as he seems to be the player through which any instruction from the bench is passed to the rest of the team. The problem today was that there were too many changes made to the side. I thought Murty looked a good signing, better that Craine at least.
  • No sorry imho a captain looks good in a good team and bad in a bad team. If he is surrounded by shit players ...what can he do?
  • I've always been sceptical about this captain business. It's not cricket; it's not as if they're out there making important decisions (other than heads or tails). To me the only benefit is in having someone with the job of shouting encouragement to his team mates, but any player worth his salt should be doing that anyway. I don't want messages from the bench watered down by having to go through one man. I want that message delivered in the shortest most direct way possible - every one on the park needs to have the capability to pass on instructions to any or all of their team mates.

    Yep

Cos Curb_it and Weegie put the fear of God into Ketman's Dad ;-)
  • Quality response Stig thanks for helping to unravel things.
