Just got home after getting up at 5.30am, flying down to Stansted, fearing the worst when there was freezing fog in the S.E., then feeling a tiny bit optimistic whilst enjoying a pre match pint in the Anchor. Oh well....
First of all, well done to Mick and the groundstaff for getting the match to go ahead - quite an effort in the conditions.
I just feel rather sad about the result. I hadn't seen us 'live' since Nov, so it was the first time I've personally witnessed Elliott, McEveley and Burton, as well as Spring and Murty. Quite a change in a couple of months - and on the whole, for the better on today's showing. (Reserving judgment on Spring as he's a bit too reminiscent of Bryan Hughes; difficult to say re Elliott as he had absolutely nothing to do, and no chance with the goals.) We played some reasonable football at times and created a good number of chances. The ball just would not fall for us. We also kept going right to the end. WE DID NOT LOOK LIKE A TEAM ON ITS WORST EVER LOSING STREAK. I've seen far, far worse performances in the past.
I know we missed chances, but ultimately, we were undone by poor defending, and two mistakes by Hudson. I am rather shocked at what has happened to him - a shadow of the player from earlier in the season, but then I was told by a Palace fan that he is a confidence player...and at the moment he has none. The sooner Parky can get in another centre back the better - though who will want to join us?!
Yes, we are in dire straits, and the season is all but over, with an outcome that could threaten the very future of our football club. Reading Chappell's statement in the programme and trying to work out the figures is frightening - we are trading at a massive loss, and that will come to a head sooner rather than later now.
But, there was much more spirit there today than I feared there might be, given the circumstances we are in. If we think it's soul-destroying, how must the players feel? I do believe most of that current bunch do care (Ambrose excepted on today's showing.) I still think Parky has sound ideas to establish a solid foundation, and deserves our backing while he tries to do that. If only we can manage to keep Shelvey, to keep some togetherness and to avoid complete financial meltdown, we will survive, and, who knows, perhaps thrive again one day.
And I am really glad I was there to see it, and to make up my own mind. (I've not looked at any other threads on here yet.) After all, supporting your team is all about being part of it, through thick and thin, and ups and downs.
Up the Addicks!

Sums up how I feel.
If you read some of the other threads you can get very depressed.
I, too, feel that the majority of these players do care. I think most players are just desperately short of confidence, as going on a 17 match unbeaten run will do. I hope we get another centre back in, and hopefully somehow try and get someone who can score a few goals, or someone within the squad takes any chance that they are given.
I believe that had we been in midtable and not on such a dreadful run of form, we would have won that game quite comfortably today.
I'll have a pint of what Lat's has been drinking.
Or have you been mixing work with pleasure??????? ;-)
Very well put though Weegie
You sure Dazzler, Saturday afternoon's are for football not shopping - plenty of time for the GF in the evening mate!
I'm sure at times footballers and 'football people' just natural think we all live round the corner and pop along to games, without knowing the lengths and expense some people make to be there.
lol i was helping her move back to uni, really wanted to be there! Big well done to weegie for being there!
