Generally I like the bloke and he speaks a lot of sense, however is he beginning to go down the Pardew 'spin route'?
O/S: Parky: "The fans care but no-one cares more than me and the players; it's our livelihoods"
Sorry but that is bullshit. If we go down this year the vast bulk of these players will bugger off to another club and never look back. Was Ambrose performance today that of a player who 'cares'.
I and many other fans on the other hand will still be here next season paying money to watch my team play in Tier 3, which for me will be the first time at that level having been going for 'only' 25 years.

Ambrose is never going to be a player that does a lot of closing down, 'getting stuck in', throwing himself into tackles.
It's a bit like the thing with Berbatov, turns out he did more running than Rooney in a recent match, but he's constantly being called a lazy player. He might not close down the opposition non stop, but he's probably making runs off the ball all the time and things like that which don't get noticed.
Though I have given up on him, he just doesn't play to his ability often enough, doesn't seem to have the confidence to do it. We need more reliable players in, and players like Ambrose out.
Other than Jonjo he came nearest to scoring.
Credit to Smith for the save because Ambrose caught it well.
He is frustrating though (Ambrose not Jonjo!).
He said it with the best of intentions and for the right motives, so it's not worth making a big issue out of it. But as Valleyman points out, it's total bloody nonsense.
So the loan players - or even our 'own' come to that - care more than the fans? Yes, it's their livelihood - this week. But it won't be next week or the week after or next season when they're sold or their loan period comes to an end. They'll go off and be paid by someone else to show how much they ''care'' for a quite different team.
Long after every single player currently picking up a wage to wear our shirt is gone, we, the Charlton fans will still be here, whatever division we're in. Sometimes those who make a 'livelihood' out of football tend to overlook that...
No I'm sorry Mr Parkinson there are thousands who care a LOT more than you do...a lot more.
Let me suggest to you Mr Parkinson that you were hoping against hope that the match today could have been called off because of the cold weather, and you had that in your mind throughout training this week, and as a result the players weren't prepared with enough edge, and desire, and CARE to win, to justify their livelihoods.
Mr Parkinson, I reckon any fan in the stadium today could have done as well as you have as manager....AND WOULD HAVE DONE IT FOR FREE. I suggest Philip that you get in your car, and look at every team we are about to play for weaknesses, you train the players more, you try harder....because what you are doing at the moment isn't working. Kevin Keegan quit as England manager because he admitted he had traveled a bridge too far, do you think you can cope Mr Parkinson, or will you hand over to me, or ten thousand other Charlton fans who could pick the team with a pin, and still achieve the same results FOR FREE (i.e it wouldn't be their livelihood, it would be their love, their passion)?
I'm amazed that this quote hasn't got more of a reaction to be honest. To suggest the players care more than us is ludicrous to be honest. Some are loanees and won't be here in a month let alone the end of the season, others won't be bothered as their contacts are up in June and as is the way these days will walk off to a contract elsewhere and a nice signing on fee, the others will try to get a move as they don't want to play in League 1. Plus from their performances it doesn't look like they care does it ?
i'll look that up then
those comments from parky have really fecking rattled my cage today
HIs motives were innocent and his intentions good : he was simply trying to reassure the fans that he cares and the players care and they are hurting, too.
I admit that when you analyse his exact words, what he said is nonsense. But I really don't think he meant to belittle how much the fans care...
A much fairer criticism to make at him is that his players have yet to show us how much they care where it matters - on the pitch.
And we were those Fads 'hats' - you remember?
