Today's Game

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
We started well, Jon jo set Burton up twice in the first 10 minutes - we should have taken the lead.

We were on top for the first half hour and then a cross comes into the box - Hudson fails to listen to a Murty call and heads the ball into a dangerous area, it gets knocked into the 6 yard box, Tyson open goal, 1-0.

2 minutes later Holland heads the ball dangerously back to Hudson, Earnshaw's onto it, all too easy, 2-0.

Our 'keeper had no shots to save yet we lose 2-0!!?!

Burton - NOT GOOD ENOUGH

Comments

  • Jon Jo - best player on the pitch - head and shoulders above anyone else.

Ambrose actually tried - looked hungry and put a shift in.

In the most important game of the season, a must win - we play Burton as a lone striker ... Wtf!!?!!

    Baffling.

Hudson poor - we need inspiration.

Fair play to Murty and McEveley - Spring, indifferent.

    Had enough
  • PLAY

    CHRIS

    DICKSON
  • Yet another tbh shite team visits The Valley and goes home with three points. I am baffled. Elliot was a spectator.
  • Their strikers got two chances, and they scored two goals.
  • Burton is so far off the radar in terms of ability that eveything that gets built up he ruins

How do we manage to keep losing games with these kind of stats?

    STAT ATTACK
    11 Shots On Target 4
    11 Shots Off Target 0
    13 Fouls (Conceded) 12
    11 Corners 1
    1 Yellow Cards 0
    0 Red Cards 0
    REFEREE: Andy Woolmer
  • why oh why are we persisting with non scoring strikers.
  • Steve Brown on BBCradio LOndon said he is so upset about it but he thinks that is it we are down, He threw his hat in the ring told them he could do no worse and heard nothing back,

He said Parky getting the job rang bells around the football fraternity that we had given up and were planning for league 1

I fuking hate everything that is happening at our club right now.

you know who you are, Fuk knows why you are doing it but i hope you get your just desserts

We need a fit Svetoslav Todorov in the side. Missed Bailey too today from the centre of the park. Can only assume Hudson will still feeling his injury. He was very poor today, not getting off the floor and getting no distance on his headers. We were inviting them onto us by failing to clear our lines and it culminated in two defensively poor goals conceded. My MotM was Jay McEveley, got forward beyond Ambrose a few times, a few marauding runs. One loan player to have impressed everytime he's played.

    Elliot 6; Murty 6, Hudson 4, Fortune 5, McEveley 7; Sam 6, Semedo (Holland 5), Spring 5 (Waghorn 6), Ambrose 6; Shelvey 7; Burton 5 (Gray 5).
  • 4 key moments in the game

    they score from 2 chances

    we dont

Nothing is going our way this season at all.
  • Had that feeling from November onwards. We can't score, we can't defend. A lethal cocktail.
  • If we're going down (which looks likely) I would like to see Dickson playing

...he can't be any f**king worse can he?

He might actually develop into a better player and be useful to us next season...
  • Get a clinical finisher in the squad and we would have won the game in the first 10 minutes. I want to see more of Dickson as well. He needs more first team experience to develop into a great player. Why is parkinson persisting with players such as Burton who does not look like scoring. If players aren't playing well, don't play them!! Give other players a chance. Can't be much worse than it is now. We need something, and we need something soon

If you read what Parky says in the Daily Mail this morning, then I'm not surprised Steve Brown didn't even get a response. Parky now claims that the board told him when he arrived in Dec 2006 that he would succeed Pardew when he left.

I'm not making it up. It's there in black and white, direct quote from Parky himself: ''When I joined Charlton as assistant to Alan Pardew, the board looked on it that Alan would eventually move on and they wanted continuity. They basically said the job would be mine.''

Later in the article, he acually uses the word "promise''.

So, if we are to take his words at face value, the board has spent the last two years grooming him for the job and nobody else was ever going to be considered...

the answer to that nigel if what is written in that paper is true is

A FUKING JOKE i said i wouldnt swear but if it is true our board are liars and a effing joke

we have had members of that board quote

Results and Performances have to improve for him to get the job

what is getting my goat is that no one is asking this fuking shambles of a mgmt team why they appointed Parky, what had they seen that made them want to employ him Why they told the fans the above quote,

I am ashamed of them royally fuked off with them and down right disapointed in them

i can not put into words how i feel i cant even promise that if i crossed paths with them i wouldnt be rude nor aggresive towards them

the annoyance and contempt that i holdthem in is festering inside
  • As said above there are three stirkers owned by CAFC who have had limited or no chance to impress, Todorov will never be fit again he has had too may injuries. I though Dickson actually offerred some threat v Norwich in the cup and to see him not involved at all today was depressing. Who of our current strikers has ever done the sort of run of scoring that Dickson did for the Gills.
  • I can't disagree with a word in this thread, other than the bit about Toddy - unless you have a time machine to take him back pre-injury: and if you do you'd just take us back pre-Dowie (though our board's propensity to repeat its errors probably means I'd have to sit through three seasons of the same gash, again).

I'm sure at the time that was said, it wasn't anticipated that both would be so f***ing useless!

Lets not take the comment out of context.

Personally i think the Boards biggest mistake was resting on it's laurels in our premiership days. That's where things went wrong, everything since has just compounded our problems.

Nigel/Nth Ldn Addick, I read that statement from Parkinson and basically took it that the board has lied to the fans and was surprised no-one on here picked up on it.

At this rate we may end up in Div 2. . . .

I said the signing of Burton was a shocker and said a lot (far too much in fact) about Parkinson.

    What a total shambles.

Basically down by 10th January is nothing short of a scandal.

    And your resolution is?
  • Burton is not a lone striker so we shouldn't criticise him as he is playing in a role that he isn't suitable- the blame must lay with Parky. Burton is a link man who holds the ball up and looks to get others into the game but hasn't got THAT second striker running through for him to lay it off to. We should play either Dickson or Waghorn alongside him with Shelvey just behind. Ambrose was a joke, he didn't do anything until the last minute or so and should have been taken off for Basey. Hudson looks dangerous in the box, dangerous in our box when defending- he gives too many goals away- at least when he went center forward, Forest's defence looked panicky. Prehaps until we get the much talked about striker we should play him there. Talking of Strikers why don't we go for Alan Gow now his move to Wolves has fallen through or even Matt Jansen from Blackburn?
  • If we are looking for a striker, I saw Kanu at Bluewater two days ago. Maybe he's coming on loan lol ;)
  • We could turn Kanu into a park player in two seconds flat ....

Why not? He was linked with us a few years back. We didn't have the money (or didn't fancy the price) and he went elsewhere (WBA think). Might do a good job if we could find a pair of boots big enough. How old is he, about 50?

Sign him up in that case....will be handy to have him in the Kent Premier in a few seasons ;-)
