lloyd Sam on Parkinson

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
Interesting piece from Lloyd Sam's blog:

Phil Parkinson has improved the sarpness of the squad since he took over

So far this season has been a bit of a nightmare but all the players and all the coaching staff are working to turn it around. The fact is that we´re not playing that bad, but we´re not getting the results. I´d be more worried if we were playing terrible.

Having said that we are all aware that we need to start turning things around and picking up points. I think one of the problems we´ve had is our response when teams go ahead or equalise against us. Those are the times when you have to pick yourself up and stay positive. One of the things that the new boss Phil Parkinson has worked on is getting us right mentally. I feel we are getting sharper under him and the performances are improving. It´s good to know we have someone in charge and now we can just settle down and try to get our football right. A lot of it is mental and if we can get over that I´m sure we can start pushing up the table.

Reading defender Graeme Murty has come in and I´m sure there´ll be one or two more new faces before the transfer window closes. I don´t think there´s much wrong with the squad but we could do with a bit of cover. Personally I´m really happy at Charlton. I was on the bench a bit, but I´ve played recently and so long as I´m getting a chance that´s all I want. This is a fantastic club and I want to be a part of it and helping keep us in the Championship. At the moment our target is safety.

We drew with Norwich in the FA Cup and face a replay next week. That´s not great but I´d still rather be in the cup. Before that we have Forest in the league and they will be scrapping because they´re in the mix at the bottom as well. I think we´ve been a bit better at home than away so I´m happy that we´re facing them at the Valley. The fans have been great and I think they realise that we are trying to put things right.

  • the fact is we're not playing that badly

Well Lloyd you want to view it from our seats mate.It is shite feckin shite
  • Steve, gonna have to take issue again mate. ;o)

We're so close to getting it right, there's fresh blood coming into the team, better organisation, better attitude.

Sheff Utd - we play a cracking 1st half away at promotion contenders - go a goal up, and probably should have got a 2nd.
We hold our lead to the 66th minute - and then collapse in time-honoured tradition, conceding 3 goals inside 15 minutes.

Verdict:we played well for 60 minutes.

Norwich - we play a cracking 1st half, JJ scores a brilliant goal - and in truth we should have been 3-0 up at half time.
We hold our lead until the 70th minute - and then find ourselves under pressure, but still we have chances to win it.

Verdict: we played well for 60 minutes.

It's a 90 minute game - so we we have to play for 90 minutes.
But the facts are, we've been controlling games for long periods - and then shrivelling up when we concede. That's the issue.

Maybe that's what you mean by, " It is shite feckin shite".......?
