Jonjo to start?

After his performance against Norwich in the cup and with Bailey suspended, surely Jonjo will play from the beginning?

  • he deserves his place, but i have a feeling it is going to be spring and jose with basey and sam wide
  • I woud've said yes until we signed Spring, however I hope he does with maybe Spring being given the last 25 if Jonjo's run out of steam.
  • Think Jonjo will start. Spring too...
  • Really hope so, but I think Parkinson's going to go for the 'safe' option and have him on the bench.

Won't just be his ability that will help, if he starts it shouldy lift the crowd, and that'll help the players.
  • It's an interesting one Scoham. I suspect we may go 4-5-1 again which would definitely enable Shelvey to start and give him support in the centre.

I think if we fail to win, and Shelvey is benched from the off, I think the Parky bashing will be through the roof. To be honest, with his own winless run then into double figures, if that's the case, one might say it's fair enough!

We'll see. The loss of Bouazza two days ago has hardly widened his options...will Ambrose be in the 16??

Big day for everyone I guess!!
  • jonjo starts
  • Whoop, whoop!

    Go Jonjo!
  • I dont see now ,how he can be left out, or at least play a large part. A few excellent passes through their defence that deserved better finishing. For me, he's our best "new player", Good workrate and a touch more class than what we've had before.

He can't be left out on ability grounds certainly.

The question is whether he can handle too many games of Championship intensity physically and mentally yet.

Jonjo was the best player on the pitch today in my eyes. His vision/passing was Gerrard like. He may only be 16, but he held us together for half hour at least today against a very weak looking Forest side.

  • another couple of games like today and I can see him gone before the end of the month. Liverpool or Spurs will come calling and there will be nothing we can do about it. I hope I'm wrong. And Spring, what does he bring that Josh Wright doesn't, except a higher salary of course.
  • i agree.. bringing in more players end pushing the youngsters back..why do we need another midfielder, its goals we need...
  • Send all loan players back! our own players simply cannot do any worse, and it saves a few quid.
  • can't we loan some points? say from a mid table team who aren't going up but have enough to stay up? just a thought lol
  • How ridiculous is that. Two games, and he's gone from not being able to get in the team, to Parky worrying about keeping him. I'm all for not burning him out, but he should have played a lot more than he has.
  • Think he was really affective playing behind Burton, but drifted out of the game when we switched to 4-4-2. If we're going to play him then it needs to be in that role behind the striker where he gets time and space on the ball.
  • Agree Peakie. In fact I thought that that combo yesterday was very effective. ....Well sort of ;-)
  • I thought Shelvey was our MoM yesterday, and lasted well too, whereas in other games he has visibly tired. He played the 'in the hole' role very well, though at times was well ahead of Burton positionally. Burton looked OK to me in almost all he did apart from confidence in front of goal - on VFM he is much better than Andy Gray!
  • He was class. His vision opened them up twice in the first ten minutes. Unfortunately Burton fluffed both. He hit a fantastic pass 40 yards pass to Waghorn late on in the game. There was much more to admire.
  • Very impressed with Jonjo, only disappointment was his two free kicks. You''ll never score from 35yards on that first one that went over. Knock the ball in to the danger zone & see if we can get a flick or something. The 2nd one was begging to be hit round the wall instead of over it! The keeper hadn't positioned it properly, get it on target & it was in. Some great vision & two lovely passes for Burton early on. Good to see someone with so much energy as well, hopefully his fight will rub off on some of the others! (Did anyone notice Ambrose actually getting stuck in as well!!!)

  • Looked excellent again in the first half.

I still don't think he has got a full 90 in him, and I don't think many people could considering the running he does at the start of the game.

I really think, and it may not go down well but if he came on for 25/30 mins at the end against tiring players his influence could be a lot greater.

Good point, I think that'll happen at times. Parkinson won't start him every game.

He's an Iron at heart so wouldn't go spurs!
  • Did very well but did tire. I wish some of those free kicks and corners we had late on had been in the first half as he might have done some damage.

More games played = higher fee IF IF IF he doesn't sign a pro-contract in Feb IMHO. I still think he will stay, for now at least.
  • on the bench for tomorrows game
  • [cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite]on the bench for tomorrows game

Yeah I can see him resting him.

Though Waghorn can't play, and Gray and Burton surely won't start together? Maybe he'll bring Todorov in. Perfect game to start Dickson, little chance of that happening now though.
  • An ideal game to try a few changes, especially now some are injured or unavailable. No points at stake either, but it'll probably be same old same old.
