For any of the Forest Fans reading.....

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
In case you don't hear properly over the tannoy, there will be a minutes applause happening before the game tomorrow.

Its a now annual thing we do to pay tribute to fans and others connected to the club who have sadly passed away in the last twelve months. Their names will be listed on the big screen to your right.

I know its a big game and you'll have a large following there, but if you could link this onto your various forums or mention so people are aware, it would be much obliged.

Cheers

  • The last time we did this the away club also put some names up - I think?? Are Forest doing the same?
  • Nottingham Forest have been told and invited to add names to the list if they wish to. Although it'll be too late now, as the list is closed.

Just sent this to my Forest mate who's meeting up with me tomorrow. Hopefully he will spread the word.

How many names have been submitted now?

PS can you nag your boss about the other guest on 10th Feb : - )
  • Should make for a perfect atmosphere generator before a relegation six-pointer! Jeez.

It's a good idea but with all the doom and gloom surrounding the club at the moment, does anyone else think we could do without it now?

I must admit, I wasn't there for the last one so not sure if it actually dampened the mood or was a celebration of supporters past.

Sorry Valley11 but that is a really naff post.

You weren't there last year so why not ask first before suggesting "we could do without it".

It's only once a year and we get to pay our respects to 140+ people. I'd guess that everyone on here will have at least heard of some of the people.

And for the record last time we did it we won 4-1

    Jeez, indeed.
  • Same as that Henry. What is an 'Atmosphere Generator' anyway?
  • Fair point Henry. I 'ass'umed it would put a downer on proceedings. And you know what an assumption makes of you. I apologise.

What was the atmosphere like at the last one?

Bibble: I think you know what I meant.

No probs. If anything it lifted the atmosphere although that is, IMHO, neither here nor there.

You know, the one they rolled out for Barnsley ...

That'll be the stoopid fish on the screen then.
  • Yes Valley11 I did. Just trying to lighten it that's all. Missed the smiley thingy off!
  • Valley...it's one minute out of our lives once a year.....I have to say that last time it was really fantastic and certainly not a downer in any shape or form....In fact it united even more I'd say....Up The Addicks.
  • OK Henry, I see what you mean now.

Got the wrong end of the stick in terms of the feeling of the day and tribute.

I'm hoping that the little bugger may have drowned as it was missing for the Norwich game.

Don't worry, there were a few idiots slagging it off in a really nasty way last year BEFORE it has even happened (yes, you Frankie Valley).

Well done for coming back and holding you hands up.
  • I don't think it's just the 140+ names that people think of, it's an opportunity for anyone who remembers someone with a Charlton connection who has passed on no matter when it was be it a family member, a friend or a player. I'll be looking at the board to see if I recognise any names but I'll be remembering my Dad and Grandad who first brought me along to the Valley all those years ago. No doubt half hour into the game I'll be cursing them again! But I do think it serves to fire the crowd up for the kick off and it's then a matter of keeping it going.
  • My own Dad's name was on the list last year & may I say it is a touching tribute to remember all the recently departed who held the club so dear.

Real lump in the throat time - long may it continue.

  • im welling up just thinking about it. sounds daft as my dad is still with us, but if he wasnt anymore and i saw his name up there id roar for 90 minutes whatever was happening on the pitch. whole hearted respect to all those that this event touches deeply.

dont mean to get off topic but last week i met an old fella (whilst at work in doncaster) a leeds fan, and when i told him i support charlton he started telling me his uncle used to play for them years ago. i was thinking 'hes gonna reveal someone ive never heard of' and he pipes up with 'sam bartram' i nearly fell of my chair. i decided to stop for a brew and chatted about the 'old' days and how bad things are now, but that there will always be a charlton and i'll always support them.

Love to all Charlton fans past and present.
    RIP Sam Bartram

Indeed m_ l _c, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up when your old man's name came up.

I think the idea really works.
  • I think it's a brilliant idea. Even though my Dad died a few years ago now, he'll still be in my thoughts as we clap those we've lost this year. Time for us all to remember the great times we had at the Valley with those sadly not with us any more and get behind the boys tomorrow!!!!!

Pity Frankie Valley won't be joining in with the respect......some people....egh...some people.
PS..My REAL feelings towards FV are greatly watered down in deference to the rules of the message board.

    Morning all,

I've posted this onto one of the Forest message boards.

I know that myself and the group I'm coming with will respect it - though I couldn't speak for the rest of the Forest lot. On the whole I don't think we're too bad as away supporters, but every large group is going to have it's idiots doesn't it?!

Looks like we're not too far off from selling out our allocation so should make for a cracking atmosphere.
  • Forest legend Chic Thompson died last week, he was their keeper in the '59 cup final. We will be inviting Forest fans to remember him as well.
  • i found it very emotion last year and although not a Charlton fan i will be remembering my grandad who's funeral is on Thursday.
  • sorry to hear that mate

c u today in the lib 1330 if the games on
  • RIP my bro.
