Why we are in the situation we are - my definitive view

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
I think the day all went tits up was when we finished 7th from that date things have just got worse and worse.

I feel it is mainly because Alan C was not given funding to push on from there - and i feel he would have stayed if we had shown him that respect.

So a lack of respect for a long serving Manager and a lack of spending also for that reason.

Just remember how much Dowie was given straight away £12.5 million as he took over?

  • Completely agree Dazzler.

More cash & more support from the fans was needed & never happened. Those who wanted him to go because he couldn't take us to the next level were absolute fools, expecting far far too much & now look at us!
  • Yep it was the fans fault for Curbishley going. He wanted out so that he was free to manage a bigger club. He talk a gamble and it paid off he was lucky as he really wanted to be West Hams manager.
  • Blaming the supporters again mmmm interesting, cannot see it myself. To my mind Curbishley was backed to the hilt by the Board during his entire time at CAFC & as for the fans at not 1 single game was there ever a Curbishley OUT chant, yes you get the odd tool on Talksport but that is hardly the consensus is it, all clubs have the ranters & ravers who ring up radio stations Spurs being the perfect example of this. The Board then went the Irresponsible route with Dowie & over committed spending wise & we are paying for it now.
  • and we already have a thread on turning points thank you very much
  • hey i didnt blame the fans!
  • He had money at West Ham and wasted it, we could be in an even worse state than we are now.

Discuss??? Discuss you say. Christ hasnt this been discussed and discussed and done to bloody death!! its boring.

Lets just roll our sleeves up and just get on with it instead of going over and over the same old thing.

    Onwards and upwards.
  • Calm down - Curb it. :-)
  • ok I am happy for this to be sunk as i've located the other thread!
  • Last word ..... when we finished 7th, Parker had been sold for £10 million, and Curbs had big funds to spend on Rommedahl,
Jeffers, Murphy. He also signed Hughes on a free - but as we all know by now, they come with big signing on fees, which are taken out of budget.
