One way to get the atmosphere back is for the 10 minutes before kick off to have no tannoy music and let the crowd build it up as in the old days. All this dramatic music just hinders the crowd .

Alternitivly the players could put in a performance that showed they gave a flying f*** about the shirt, the fans, the club and getting us out of the shit!
You need to sort out the North Stand roof if you want an atmosphere. I think the fans in the last few games have been pretty decent with all things considered.
The only way to solve the atmosphere problem at The Valley is to move away supporters out of the Jimmy and have it as a home end and have away supporters in half of the East or some of the West. Although this will never happen and we will continue to hold the label as the worst home supporters in the football leagues.

Away fans sat there in our early seasons in the premiership and we didn't have any problem with atmosphere then!
Perhaps someone can explain how moving people from the east/west to the Jimmy Seed is going to improve the atmosphere cos I really don't understand this one.

Once the Covered End with it's low roof and superb acoustics was torn down , we replaced it with the high roof openess of the North Stand (soul-less name). That high roof means much more noise has to be generated to compare with the old Covered End.
The Jimmy Seed has the traditional low roof and good acoustics - and would be similar effect to the old Covered End.
As away supporters constantly prove.

Absolutely spot on.
I hate that Lord of the rings style crap. It's as old hat as that fu*king "FIIIISH"
[cite]Posted By: aliwibble[/cite]So BDL, whose bright idea was "I need a miracle" at half time last week?
That would be Dan Davis

Actually it serves a purpose. Yes you may not like it, but the complaint from the tunnel was that the team could never hear anything, it was too quiet. So we came up with the music that we use and is generally appreciated by most people.
Look guys whatever we do, some of you won't like it some of you will. By the way it has nothing to do with Lord of the Rings.
The music behind the video montage is O'Verona from Romeo and Juliet (last time I looked there were no Orcs in fair Verona?!?)
We also use Escape from Plunkett and Maclean and the soundtrack to the Contender.
We did try to leave it quiet for ten minutes or so before kick off, it didn't work.
To be brutally honest, why should you get off your seats and shout your lungs out when the performances have been, well, crap?
If the crowd are up for it, then they will generate the atmosphere regardless of music.

BDL I have to say I don't know anyone that likes the deafening music, you can't even speak to the bloke next to you.
If the players like it, put a ghetto blaster in the tunnel for them and let the crowd talk and sing :-)

Or Farron Youngs 4 in the morning

Just my opinion though ;o)

Maybe we should try it one day.....
Here's an idea - put it to the vote.
Each week a different forummer gets to nominate the last song to be played before kick off and Charlton adhere to it...
Imagine the fun we could have with that!!
Maybe Rod Libel ..

The reason I ask is that from my point in the East Stand, the words don't seem to fit correctly and appear too wide for the space available.
Not exactly the biggest issue we face at the moment, but just thought I'd mention it...
Mine too!
If the crowd are up for it, then they will generate the atmosphere regardless of music."
This was really the thing I was getting at. What music is played before kick off or where we put the away fans really makes little difference.
The only way we will get the atmosphere back is by the team putting in a performance worth shouting about.
