Jamie Ashdown...

...was joining us from Portsmouth on loan for the rest of season until he got hurt in training last week (I heard this news today directly from a family member of his).

Now, I realise it isn't much of a 'scoop', but what does it mean for Weaver? If the club can get another keeper in, does that mean he's going to be one of the January departures?

I'd assume he's a biggish earner and would probably command a semi-decent fee, but I'd be disappointed to see him go. I'm not convinced a loanee or one of the youngsters is a better option.

Anyway, I thought I'd share this piece of non-news with you. Please continue as normal.

  • As I have already said - Weaver WILL leave this month!
  • how long is Ashdown out for ?
  • If Weaver doesn't leave this month he will in the summer, we surely won't be able to afford him.

Generally he's been decent for us, but wouldn't say good. For the wages he's probably earning we just can't afford a player to only be decent.
  • For his wages I would say in our sit, get rid now. I think Weaver is a sound goalkeeper but not that good that we can't replace

With Weaver as his 'injury' stopping him playing in the norwich cup game i guess he is on his way in jan.

It makes you think actually.....I wonder if we will look back with fondness at any of the players from this shitty couple of years.

We all get misty-eyed about Robinson, Hunt, Mendonca etc because it was a really successful period for the club.

Weaver has generally been one of the best performers over the last 2 years - but I doubt if anyone will mention him again in years to come.....
... like in January 2011, when we're at the top of the Championship cruising back to the Prem ; )

Trust me, we'll look back and laugh.....gulp
  • I'd rather have Paddy Ashdown!
  • Think Weaver will definately go this window.

Ashdown is another one who was at Reading with Parky.

Looks like he's bringing in players he knows - but I guess we've seen that already with Iwelumo and Halford, and now with Murty.

    Ashdown or Weaver?
[cite]Posted By: AFKABartram[/cite]how long is Ashdown out for ?

Anyone know the answer to this?
  • Loan upon loan upon loan.............ad lib to fade
  • [cite]Posted By: pilchard[/cite]Loan upon loan upon loan.............ad lib to fade

    We could always play Youga.
  • What does this say about Parkys confidence in Elliott?
  • [cite]Posted By: BigRedEvil[/cite]What does this say about Parkys confidence in Elliott?

I think it says more about PP's confidence in Randolph
  • Elliott has the makings of a decent keeper ....... but there's no denying there's no substitute for experience.
Experience is probably what we need in our situation though.

And I say that, taking nothing away from Rob Elliott - who I think for a young rookie keeper, has taken his chance reasonably well.
  • Anyway, so what position does this Ashdown play? Striker? Midfield? ; - )

    A month or so.

Loan signings can still be made for quite a while after the end of this transfer window, so it's not completely out of the question that he'll still join us.

The only problem with that it would be too late to sell Weaver. Maybe he'll get loaned out instead?

Or Basey or even Bob Bolder! Or maybe sticking with those we have?
  • don't want weaver to go but the way we've been run down into potlessness he might just have to...
one of the genuine 'decent' players in the grand scheme of things for our chuff team at the moment....
prefer weaver to elliot but needs must
    the end is nigh

the real Paddy Powell when we played at the emirates in the season we went down said that Darren Randolph was going to be better than Kiely.

Not sure why or where it all went wrong for him, he only made 1 error didnt he and was never seen again

In bloody goal as if we don't have enough keepers.
  • [cite]Posted By: supaclive[/cite]As I have already said - Weaver WILL leave this month!

What makes you so sure (other than the mystery injury thing, which TBF is generally a good sign that one of our players is going to be "disappeared")?

I would be sorry to see him go, but it's needs must at the moment, I guess.

How many keepers does a club need? 2, 3?
  • Ashdown was the keeper who couldn't keep a clean sheet to save his life I seem to recall a couple of seasons ago.

Should fit right in for us
  • anyone else get a feeling somthing aint right, everyone one of us on here know where we need players.. Mid Field General, Creative Midfielder , Decent Wingers, And a striker who knows how to score a goal... there must be people out there who can do these jobs, even young prem players. We dont need 4 right backs 5 left backs and 4 goalkeepers... somthing smells dodgy in se7 and it aint the masala pies...

And in the above lies just a small part of the answer to where our current problems lie (on the field at least)
