It just was not all bad

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
Sorry if I come across as a happy clapper whatever that is but I thought we looked good for the first half. There were some good moves that should have made the game safe by half time and shelvey's goal was at the end of the best passing move I have seen by a charlton team in a long time.
Yeah heads dropped on the pitch when they equalized. We had still created chances in the second half to win it. But in the end we drew we didn't lose and for my money we looked the better team for most of that game.
I think we look a better team than we did a few weeks back, more energized and more likely to create convertible chances. We just need to put them away and win a game.
Forest is a huge game we must not turn on the team if something goes wrong halfway through it will not help the cause.

  • Amen brudda.
  • Norwich were terrible and we couldn't beat them, next week really is do or die. 2 points we might have a chance, 8 points behind. No chance.
  • We need to turn games where we are the better side into wins quickly or we are down. Need to find a striker from somewhere.
  • The very worrying thing is how we continualy lose to poor opposition...sides that in recent history we'd have rolled over without too much effort.
So what does that say about us fer Christs sake!!
  • let's hope Parky uses his substitutes wiser next week. For 10 minutes yesterday we didn't have a recognised centre forward on the pitch, with 2 on the bench
  • I dont think it was bad either. 15 minutes either side of half time we had 5 good chances of scoring through good play and if one of those had gone in we would have won comfortably and been happy. I personally dont think we are that far away. Two or three players in over January and things will look better.

We had three on the bench, two of them quick as well, not as if McLeod or Dickson wouldn't have run at their defence like it seems he wanted Bouazza to.

Except Dickson didn't, bar one run and good cross, run at them or give their centre half anything to do.

Agree but while still "not far away" we are still not there yet. Will have to see who the two or three new players are and how quickly they can have an impact but that was certainly not a totally talentless or hopeless set of players.

To be fair to him he could have done with Jonjo or someone behind him trying to set him up, play a through ball or anything to give him more of a chance.

I don't think 10 minutes was fair, but I have never really been impressed with Dickson when I've seen him anyway.

He had that blocked shot when he just started running at 2 or 3 defenders, was never going to find his way through, I think it's things like that mean Pardew and Parkinson don't rate him.
  • I think I'd be tempted to put out much the same team next week. Hopefully we will get a few key signings but at the moment we have to build on what we have.
And yes there are plenty of other teams in this division who don't look great. We can beat them but at the moment we can't get the results we need and that some of our play has deserved.
That's not to ignore the shocking performances we have seen at times this season, it's just I think we are looking better finally imho. And if players and fans hold their collective nerve and keep at it the results might come and we will survive.
That's what I believe and hope anyway.

But Bouazza is the one player we have who is pacy and can shoot on the run from distance.

As some brilliant goals this season testify.

    .......

I'd agree, but hopefully Hudson will be back and McElevey won't be cup-tied and maybe Waghorn to play also, or at least start on the bench.

If Sam had feckin passed the ball it would have helped
