This team can't play 60 minutes

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
Let alone 90.

Bringing on Youga for Burton leaving only Bouazza upfront was plain bizarre and any confidence I had for Parkinson went then.

Only positives today were Franz Beckenbauer at the back and Shelvey in the 1st half, the rest are not upto it in my book and will send us down, as that Norwich side are all over the shop.

Fair play to the Happy Clappers in the North Upper as they got behind em well.

But Target 10,000 will be back next year after that 2nd half effort. . . .

  • Don't panic 4 quality signings are on their way.......actually, it's more likely to be the 4 horsemen of the apocolypse
  • Not sure what to make of that performance, parts were pretty good and we should of had a couple before half time, but at other times we looked absolutely awful and Norwich were worse, let's be honest. They are the worst team I have seen all season, admittedly I missed the Derby game. We never look like beating them and after about 50 minutes it looked odds on the would equalize. Shelvey looked good and was quick on the break, great touch always looks in control. Thought Holland looked goos at the back but Norwich were absolute pants....what does that say about us.
  • We are 6 PROFESSIONALS short in my book.

And I mean pro's not 23 year olds who cant do a fill 90 minutes.
  • I just got back from the game. I have to be honest I was impressed first half. Very good.

However, as usual Parkinson poisoned them with his words at half time and it killed them. What on earth does he say? He should stay out of the dressing room at half time and see if that helps.
  • Bizarre absolutely bizarre choice of Matt Holland at centre back and whats most concerning is that Matty was our best player. Good effort from Jonjo and Bailey getting foot in 2nd half but we were shite and are going down down down.
  • Holland was MOTM buy a long way, which says a lot for him and us!

I am more depressed than ever!

Think we are down and can't see what 3 or 4 new signings will do.

Thank you I'm glad someone else thought that was a bizzare substitution a defender for a forward....especially just after they equalised.....
  • We just ain`t good enough. We keep deluding ourselves but we are very very poor. The penny will drop big time against Forest I am very sorry to say. I know its been done to death on here but there are huge question marks hanging over the way things have been handled by the board for quite a while now. Division one next season and mid table at best I think.
  • We really don't have the players and I have lost all confidence in Parkinson today.
  • Hmm...despite it being against a very poor Norwich I think that we did put an hour's worth in.

Marshall had plenty to do today - it was nice to see an opposing keeper earn his crust.

Substitution was bemusing to say the least and we are still looking fragile but I won't give up as that is what I am asking of the players.

Besides, a morale sapping 3 - 0 away win for Forest today should make them cannon fodder for our strikeforce next week :-)

  • Where was Hudson ?
  • edited January 2009
Hudson was playing the new game on the Wii "How to defend in your own penalty area". . . . . . he took a knock at Sheff Utd.

    Crikey.

Just read Parkinson's quotes and he mirrored my positives about Beckenbauer and JonJo.

Anyway Thanks Phil and there's only one Deon Burton.
  • Thought we were good today at least until Norwich scored. Worked hard and intelligently and should have scored more and killed the game. Understand Shelvey coming off, definitely tiring, do not understand the calls for Chris Dickson, could some one enlighten me?

With Youga on the bench he felt we had enough attacking options.

Hudson is on 4 yellows. We've already lost Bailey for next week so why risk "Rock?"

    "Cock"?? harsh but fair.

Be interesting to see if Jonjo plays in midfield v Forest.
  • There was a hint of sarcasm about that post Len :-)

I agree it was bizarre, with 3 strikers and a winger on the bench it really made no sense.

As usual we're good when a team push up and play a high line, and give us space.

Should have finished it off in the first half with some of the chances we had.

Still if we get some good signings in (though it's going to be hard), they could really improve the team.

Shelvey was good, at times he needed better players around him. Like the little pass to Burton who just didn't expect it.

I thought Fortune was decent as well most of the game, but the defence will always struggle when the rest of the team can't perform for 90 minutes.

Hudson was left out, was injured.
  • They may improve the team but this is a squad game now, especially going into the 2nd half of the season with injuries and suspensions.

I just think we have too many weaknesses in key areas in the team and a very overall lightweight back up squad.

We couldn't only had 1 centre half and 1 goalkeeper ffs!!
  • Randolph was on the bench, we had 7 subs.

  • My mistake I didnt see his name on the screen.
  • It looked like the screen wasn't capable of displaying 7 subs. It said Norwich had 5 subs as well.
  • I thought we only had 5 subs!

The screen I saw displayed: 3 strikers, Youga and Wright??
  • Yeah the screen must have some template which couldn't be changed. He read 7 subs on the tannoy.

he has to play. it will give everyone such a lift from the players to the fans.

I think we definitely do have the players! In terms of ability this squad should not be worrying about relegation, never mind bottom of the league. It has to be a psychological thing that we can't seem to play for 90 mins. Their heads drop at the smallest set back. But that is why i think a couple of results in a row and that confidence starts to come back, and they'll look like a different team.

I've quoted you twice in one post falconwood... am i paying too much attention to you? :-P
  • Parp.

I agree that they aren't a mentally tough group but look at our players and how many of them do you rate as mid-table plus players?

As an example, Deon Burton isn't and we've just given him a contract. . .
  • I'd say that we have a strong spine of a team with weaver, fortune, zheng, hudson, holland (only his age makes him a doubt), bouazza and gray.

Add to that (off the top of my head) bailey, semedo, racon and todorov if he were fit, who i think should all be playing in the upper half of the championship.

there is a lack of full backs on my list though.

burton should be able to make a contribution in this division but he's not exactly someone you want to depend on.

So surely a good decision playing him there?

I was calling for him to come on, but much earlier than parky did. I'm hoping he would have played better given more time on pitch...
  • agreed yesterday was a game with no pints at stake why didn't he gofor it a give dickson a longer run or at least throw another forward on.But to take off a centre forward and replac him with a left back was a little bemusing
